Head coach Ben Johnson led the Chicago Bears to the NFC North crown and an appearance in the NFC Divisional Round in his first season with the organization.

Johnson started the season 0-2, but the “cardiac Bears” made several miraculous comebacks during the regular season to make a splash in the postseason in the second year of quarterback Caleb Williams.

Year 2 for Johnson could be a big season for the Bears. Chicago has momentum on its side, though they have significant issues in the trenches to address this offseason.

When speaking to reporters at the league’s annual meeting, Bears owner George McCaskey said Johnson has nothing to be complacent about. While he’s pleased with the team’s progress in Year 1, he isn’t satisfied with coming short of winning the Super Bowl.

The Chicago Bears have more to do

More News: Steelers think they got a ‘steal’ from Chicago Bears in free agency

“It was a great run,” McCaskey said, via NFL Media. “It was a miraculous run. Surreal run. But ultimately, we fell short of our goal. The goal is to win the Super Bowl. So there’s some more work to be done. I think we have a good core of players. They fight like hell for each other. They fight like hell for their coach.

“I think they’re confident that he will find some way for them to win, and that’s a great and elusive ingredient in our great game. He’s already said that complacency is not going to be an issue. What do we have to be complacent about? We haven’t achieved our goal.”

The Bears have more work to do to achieve that goal. Chicago needs to boost its roster via the 2026 NFL Draft.

The Bears need to add a left tackle and pass-rushers early in the draft. Chicago needs to replace several safeties that left in free agency.

If the Bears can build in the trenches this offseason, the team should be a threat in the playoffs for the upcoming season.
