Chicago White Sox: 3 pitchers off to fantastic starts early in 2026 MLB season
The Chicago White Sox are 5-8 early in the season. Through the first 13 games of the year, they have certainly been on some sort of roller coaster. They opened the season by getting swept, later swept the Toronto Blue Jays, and then were on the wrong side of a sweep at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles.
But on Thursday night, the White Sox shut out the Kansas City Royals 2-0, something they have not done on the road in decades. In fact, Chicago had not beaten Kansas City at all on the road since 2024.
Without a doubt, the 2026 season is going to be filled with more ups and downs. So far, it looks like many of its high-points are going to come thanks to some of their pitchers.
1. Anthony Kay
One of the best underdog stories in Major League Baseball is the return of Anthony Kay to the Bigs. Before earning the win against the Royals on Thursday night, he had not recorded a win in the Major Leagues since 2021. He appeared in 28 games for the Blue Jays between 2019 and 2022, and in 16 games in 2023 for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.
However, he spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons pitching in Japan, and made his return to the Majors this year with the White Sox.
Through his first three games (two starts), he is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA.
2. Davis Martin
Davis Martin is no stranger to the White Sox, of course. He has been in and out of the starting rotation for the past four years. However, he is off to a much better start this year than he has shown in seasons past.
Heading into 2026, Martin was 10-21 with a 4.32 ERA in 51 games (44 starts).
So far this year, he is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA through his first two starts.
3. Grant Taylor
Perhaps the most versatile (and best) pitcher on Chicago’s staff, Grant Taylor has already appeared in six games, three of which saw him deployed as an opener.
In these six games, he is sporting a 1.42 ERA, the lowest on the team.
