Chicago Bears hoping to steal coveted up-and-coming coach from the Green Bay Packers

The Chicago Bears got quite the shock last week when offensive Declan Doyle was hired away from the team. After at first committing to return to Chicago, Doyle accepted the offensive coordinator job with the Baltimore Ravens. The move, for Doyle, made sense because he can call his own plays in Baltimore. Head coach Ben Johnson, of course, calls the offensive plays in Chicago.

But as good as the move was for Doyle, it left the Bears in a precarious position. With the best offensive coordinator candidates already hired, their own pool of replacements was relatively small.

That being said, they have requested an interview with a young coach who is coveted by Chicago’s biggest rival, the Green Bay Packers.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bears have requested an interview with Arizona Cardinals passing game coordinator Connor Senger for their offensive coordinator position:

Last week, Senger interviewed with the Packers for their quarterback coach opening. Sean Mannion, their previous quarterback coach, is the new offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Senger worked with new Green Bay defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon in Arizona. He also has strong ties to the state of Wisconsin. Born in West Allis, Senger went to high school in Milwaukee and played college football at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Senger began his coaching career in Wisconsin as well. He previously served on staffs of multiple universities in the UW system.

But while his ties to Wisconsin are strong, he may be lured away from Green Bay with a better offer as an offensive coordinator in Chicago.
