A Look Back at the 2025 Jets Season
The New York Jets suffered another disappointing season, as the postseason drought extended to 15 seasons. What did we learn from this season, and what can fans look forward to in 2026?
The Details of the Season
A 3-14 record shows us right away that this season wasn’t a success. It began with general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn taking on their new roles, and it became clear early on that beating the previous season’s 5–12 record wasn’t going to be easy.
In the end, it was the franchise’s tenth consecutive losing season. The Jets were the last winless team left in the NFL when they finally got a victory against the Cincinnati Bengals in the eighth game. A 3-9 start meant that it was all about trying to save face in the remaining games.
This record has led to the Jets being seen as one of the most reliable sports betting options for many fans. This is a market that continues to grow, with popular brands like ESPN Bet (now rebranded in the US as theScore Bet) offering markets across all the Jets’ games. Platforms like these have use various promotions to keep viewers engaged, such as theScore Bet promo for new users, that lets newcomers start betting with bonus funds.
What Went Wrong?
The huge roster rebuild carried out in the 2024 offseason failed to reap rewards. As the recent season progressed, it became clear that another rebuild is needed. This led to star players such as cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams being traded away in exchange for draft picks in the early rounds.
Some of the mishaps spoke to us of trouble behind the scenes. The new head coach appeared to struggle with certain aspects of in-game management, which led to GM Mougey stepping in and seeming to be more active than before in terms of making decisions on the coaching staff.
A Look Ahead
Having the second pick in the 2026 NFL draft is now the franchise’s focus, and the best chance of getting the next rebuild off to a strong start. It’s expected that the Jets will aim for the top-rated quarterback available to them. With the number one pick going to the Las Vegas Raiders, they’re expected to grab Fernando Mendoza.
This leaves New York looking at Dante Moore, although this Yahoo Sports article confirms the fact that the Oregon QB hasn’t yet declared for the draft. Fans will be hoping that this is the start of a successful new team being built.
The draft is scheduled for April 23–25, with the Jets also having the 16th pick as part of the trade involving Gardner. The Williams trade to Dallas has given the franchise an extra second-round pick, too.
Jets fans will be hoping that the 2026 draft is the start of a new golden era. Even if they don’t win the Super Bowl next year, some signs of progress, like a winning season or reaching the playoffs, would be good enough to help forget a miserable 2025-26 season.
