Today in Afghanistan One U.S. service member killed, one injured by IED attack in Iraq on Sunday. No further details have been released as yet.

Iran has apparently deployed tanks and artillery to the border with Iraqi Kurdistan. While this is probably intended as a show of intimidation, it is only a small force and does not represent any actual imminent threat.

Iraqi and Iranian forces also conduct joint exercises near the Kurdistan border.

IS sets fire to oil wells near Hawija as Iraqi forces continue to seize ground in the area.

PM Abadi says he will not hold talks with Kurdish leaders until the “cancel the result” of the referendum.

While Iraq continues to close its airspace to international flights to and from Kurdistan, it will allow foreigners to leave via Baghdad.

Among the people fleeing the Iraqi offensive in Hawija are military aged men. Although Kurdish fighters are not participating in the offensive, the refugees are going to Kurdish-controlled Kirkuk and Kurdish forces are responsible for screening them.
