Jaquan Brisker’s time with Chicago Bears could soon come to an end

Chicago Bears safety Jaquan Brisker (9) celebrates a defensive stop against the Los Angeles Rams during the second half at Soldier Field

It’s a tradition unlike any other. The Chicago Bears defense and running game is propelling the team to a 9-3 record before traveling to play the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Safety Kevin Byard is playing at high-level this season, recording the second-most tackles for the Bears (65) to go along with a team-high six interceptions, and four tackles for loss.

Brisker’s 62 tackles is the third-most for Chicago. He has one interception and one sack.

Both Byard and Brisker are set to head into free agency after the regular season.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune believes the Bears will emphasize extending the contract of Byard. If they extend the veteran, general manager Ryan Poles will likely draft Brisker’s replacement or sign a cheaper option in free agency.

Because of Brisker’s health history, it’s likely the Bears will move on from the 2022 second-round pick in the offseason.

“Brisker’s concussion history — one in each of his first three seasons — will work against him as a free agent,” Biggs wrote. ‘Fortunately he has been healthy this season, but he missed 12 games in 2024 and that’s a bit of a red flag.

“Maybe the Bears value Brisker and will consider bringing him back at their price, but they’ll have to determine how they want to allocate their resources and then get a feel for what’s available in free agency and the draft.”

Of course, Brisker still has finish the final five games of the regular season before he can say he was fully healthy for 2025. He could play a bigger role in helping Chicago compete in the playoffs.

For now, Brisker’s on the bubble, and he hasn’t proven to be irreplaceable through his first 12 outings this season.
