OTL: Ravens Used Quick Passing Game in Minnesota
The timing of the NFL schedule as it relates to Veterans Day is a little odd this year, with Veterans Day falling on a Tuesday, which is, of course, a non-gameday. The NFL did do their Salute to Service games this past weekend, as they wouldn’t get another chance to recognize the military until the following Thursday Night Football matchup, so it seems like they figured it’s better to be early than to be late. Before we jump into the stories from this past weekend, I want to pause and acknowledge the occasion. I come from a veteran family, and in my full-time job, I work every day with service members, veterans, and their families. Their service and their sacrifice are worth recognition, and for all those who have served, and to all of those who have supported them during their missions, I thank you.
Among a lot of other freedoms that we get to enjoy, many of us got the day off, and we have the chance to use that time to talk a little ball.
The Ravens (4-5) are now 1 game back of the Steelers (5-4). Their AFC North title odds are up to ~64%, per the NYT; Pittsburgh’s are down to 35%.

Not a gauntlet of offenses, but Ravens have done their job.

The Ravens took another step on their road back to relevance this season by beating the Vikings on the road and extending their winning streak to three games. As Jonas referenced above, their opponents over that streak haven’t exactly been the cream of the crop, but winning those matchups should be the expectation for Baltimore, and it’s been good to see them look a little more like themselves as they’ve captured those wins.
“At least, we have stuff to celebrate now.”
With the way the Ravens defense was playing early this season, the team probably doesn’t win on a day where the offense scuffles. On Sunday against the Vikings, the defense and special teams was the story. https://t.co/O9Kc6bix9Z pic.twitter.com/WkHJBuZsws— Jeff Zrebiec (@jeffzrebiec) November 10, 2025
Dre’Mont Jones with a CLEAN win as a 4T
Really nice to have this flexibility to get some extra juice inside with Travis Jones at the 1T on passing downs.#RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/aVsRzoaCrv

Baltimore’s defense has finally started to tighten things up, even with several starters on IR. Kyle Hamilton has finally been able to roam around more as a chess piece in the secondary, making life easier for the other DBs, who were able to pull down a pair of moon ball interceptions from J.J. McCarthy. Beyond that, the defense has started to bring more sustained pressure on the quarterback, and Dre’Mont Jones’ immediate fit within the defense allowed Travis Jones to have a big game on Sunday. They’ll try to follow that solid performance by trying to stack another against another young QB who will be facing them for the first time.
Browns up next for the Ravens and it’ll be against Dillon Gabriel. https://t.co/N8smkDpfcs

On the offensive side, it wasn’t pretty at times, but a simpler game plan did allow them to move the ball more effectively, especially in the second half as the Vikings defense started to get worn down.
It isn’t going to lead to big stats, but it’s winning football.
This is an intentional approach by Todd Monken and Lamar Jackson to execute the quick game.
Tbh – would love to see it more often when needed, so they’re ready to implement in big games/playoffs.#RavensFlock pic.twitter.com/XKJ1RG0gNb

Vikings LB Blake Cashman on Ravens offense:
“I didn’t think Baltimore was really taking much risk. They were running the football. For the most part, where they were having success was in the quick passes. In the dropback, it wasn’t really working for them. It’s hard to take… pic.twitter.com/dTRF1yl58a

I love seeing a focus on getting the ball out faster because it mitigates some of the damage when pass protection isn’t up to snuff. You hear it in Blake Cashman’s quote; it’s hard for a defense to capitalize on mistakes if a methodical and conservative approach is moving the chains. Wearing teams down could be Baltimore’s best bet when they get back to playing more competitive opponents down the stretch, because it takes the pressure off the Ravens defense and plays right into what they want to do as they run the ball and kill the clock.
Unfortunately, they’ve got a few nicks and scrapes to deal with as they move forward, including eyeing a quick turnaround between the Jets and the Bengals, and it looks like Cincy may be getting healthier in a spot that would be huge for them.
Ravens WR Rashod Bateman has an ankle injury. “We’ll see,” if he misses time John Harbaugh said.
LB Jay Higgins has a knee injury and will miss a “few weeks.”

Joe Burrow told @JayGlazer he expects to be back by Thanksgiving, which is Week 13 when they play on Thanksgiving night vs. the #Ravens.
He’s ahead of his timeline. https://t.co/5LKSbYHvHV pic.twitter.com/fVcq1KKWGE

Right now, though, the Ravens aren’t focused on Thanksgiving. I guarantee you that the message in The Castle today is that they’ve done good work to get themselves out of a pretty big hole, and they need to stay focused and take care of business in Cleveland this weekend if they want to emerge completely.
