Chicago Bears HC Ben Johnson’s strong message to WRs after drops
The Chicago Bears might not have had to defeat the New York Giants in an epic comeback if their wide receivers had caught the ball before the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Caleb Williams engineered two touchdown drives in the final six minutes to lead the Bears to a 24-20 win over a two-win Giants team that would go on to fire head coach Brian Daboll on Sunday.
In total, Chicago had six official drops in the win, although a few more balls should have been caught, even if the league doesn’t count those missed opportunities as drops.
The Chicago Bears WRs need to move on

During his news conference on Monday, Bears head coach Ben Johnson said his strategy in coaching the wide receiver room was to tell them to move on.
“My strategy is like anything you talk about it and then you move on,” Johnson said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “You learn from it, you move on. In my experience—and I’ve coached quarterbacks, I’ve coached receivers, I’ve coached tight ends on the offensive side—you can make things worse by going overboard on some of this stuff and that’s not the intent.
“All those guys, they want to catch the football when it comes their way. We acknowledge the fact that there were a few of those that we could have hauled in. We need to do that, turn the page, let’s keep it moving. We’re going to be just fine.”
The Bears had 6 drops on offense yesterday after having 7 total entering Week 10. How does Ben Johnson plan to address those?

Good thing Caleb Williams ran the ball

Olamide Zaccheaus was the worst offender, dropping several passes, and he’ll need to take that message to heart before Chicago plays the Minnesota Vikings in Week 11.
Williams finished 20-of-36 passing for 220 yards and one (game-winning) touchdown in the win. He added another 63 yards and one touchdown on the ground, something that had to happen with his receivers letting him down.
Johnson said he doesn’t want Williams to have to run like that every game, but it made the Bears dangerous in cold and windy conditions at Soldier Field.
“There’s times that we do need to use our legs,” Johnson said. “I think it makes us a more dangerous offense overall… It’s something that we certainly want to utilize. It’s not something that we want to necessarily feature each and every week, but when the opportunity presents itself, we have the ability to capitalize on it.”
The Bears will be in a dome in Minnesota on Sunday. Chicago should have no problem catching the ball in such conditions.
