Promising Chicago Bears defensive end returns from injured reserve

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

The Chicago Bears’ defense has been facing a serious problem this season. The pass rush has been practically non existent nearly every single game.  During Week 8’s embarrassing loss to the Ravens, the defense only generated three pressures on quarterback Tyler Huntley.

The Bears’ defense made a quarterback that was elevated from the practice squad look like an All-Pro player. This defense clearly needs improvement right away.

Dennis Allen’s unit has also been dealing with a really bad hand of injuries as well. Kyler Gordon was recently put on injured reserve, Jaylon Johnson has been out since week 2, Grady Jarrett and TJ Edwards have been dealing with nagging injuries as well. Thankfully, the Bears finally got a little bit of a boost for their struggling defensive line.

Ben Johnson confirmed during Monday’s press conference that defensive end Austin Booker has been activated off injured reserve and will be officially back with the team.

Austin Booker will return to the Chicago Bears for Week 9

Adam Jahns of CHGO confirmed the news in a post via X, on Monday.

The defensive end has yet to play a game this regular season following a knee injury in the preseason. Booker was in the middle of a very impressive preseason before going down.

Booker didn’t do much during the 2024 regular season but he went off and impressed many earlier this summer. The defensive end had a three sack game against the Dolphins in the preseason opener.

Chicago clearly still needs help on the defensive line

Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles was warned not to take three linemen.

Chicago enters Week 9 of the season needing much more depth at pass rusher. Rookie Shemar Turner is out for the season with a torn ACL, Dominque Robinson is also currently out with a high ankle sprain.

With how bad the defensive line has played and with how injured it is, Booker is a needed boost to the team. However, it is clear that GM Ryan Poles must make a move to add depth to the unit before it gets worse.

If the Bears want to be serious about having a chance at the playoffs, Poles needs to find some ways to improve this roster fast.
