Chicago White Sox designate struggling pitcher for assignment
The Chicago White Sox have seen many players not exceed expectations in the past few seasons. Unfortunately, that trend has continued into the 2025 season.
The White Sox confirmed in a post on X, that they will be designating veteran right-handed pitcher Mike Clevinger for assignment.
They also have brought up 30-year-old right-handed pitcher Stephen Wilson from Class AAA Charlotte. Wilson appeared in 40 games with Chicago in 2024. Wilson had a 1-6 record with an ERA of 5.71.
Prior to tonight’s game vs. the Athletics, the Chicago White Sox selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Steven Wilson from Class AAA Charlotte and designated right-hander Mike Clevinger for assignment.

Mike Clevinger struggled badly for the Chicago White Sox
During the past two seasons, Clevinger struggled very bad with the White Sox.
In his eight appearances in 2025, Clevinger has a record of 0-2 with an ERA of7.94. He has only thrown 3 strikeouts and walked eight batters in just 5.2 innings pitched.
In just four appearances in 2024, Clevinger had a 0-3 record with an ERA of 6.75 in 16 innings pitched.
With how bad the right-hander has performed and due to the off the field issues he has had, it was only a matter of time till the White Sox put an end to the Mike Clevinger era. This was absolutely the correct decision for the White Sox, as this should’ve happened earlier.
The 4-12 Chicago White Sox will look to bounce back from their last two losses with hopefully a victory over the Athletics on Wednesday night.
