Who should the Jets give up in potential Davante Adams deal?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Recently, the Las Vegas Raiders announced they would be willing to part ways with their star wide receiver Davante Adams and the New York Jets are one of the top teams expected be in the running to land him.  This, as Albert Breer reports that teams believe Adams himself prefers Gang Green as his next destination.

Other than the obvious Aaron Rodgers connection, Adams to the Jets would substantially help their wide receiver room. Garrett Wilson, undeniably the Jets WR1, is off to a slow start thus far.  Getting someone of Adams’ stature, who already has a connection with Rodgers, could be a big lift to the offense.

The Raiders’ reported asking price is a second-round pick and “additional compensation”. Right now, it remains to be seen if any team will give up that much for what will likely be a short-term rental.

So far this season, Adams has 18 receptions for 209 yards and just one touchdown in the first three weeks of the new campaign.  Last year he finished with 103 receptions for 1,144 yards, picking up just eight touchdowns in the process.

It’s worth noting that the Raiders haven’t had a steady player at quarterback in quite some time.

Between a rough-shape Jimmy Garoppolo, Aiden O’Connell, and now Gardner Minshew, Davante Adams has been through quite the quarterback carousel during his time in Las Vegas. Adams reportedly said he wants to play with a quarterback he has a connection with already. This includes the likes of Derek Carr and perhaps his most legendary connection in Aaron Rodgers.

It’s no secret that Rodgers wants to bring Davante Adams in. He has expressed a desire to play with his former number one target last year, stating “I love Davante Adams. I can’t wait to play with him… again” during a celebrity golf tournament at Lake Tahoe. With Rodgers campaigning for Adams to be one of his weapons again, the Jets more than have the ability and personnel to get this done. So, who should the Jets give up to potentially acquire the Las Vegas star wide receiver?

One Player the NY Jets should trade to sweeten the Las Vegas Raiders deal

The Jets have one specific player who wants out and has requested to be traded. Of course, I’m talking about disgruntled defensive star, Haason Reddick. Reddick has been sitting out the entire 2024 season so far, with no end to the stalemate in sight.  So, the Jets have a player who wants out, and the Raiders have a player who wants out. Why not appease both and fix both issues, keeping both players happy?

We would be having a different discussion had Reddick been different, but unfortunately it’s no secret that he has zero intention of putting on a Jets uniform until he gets his way. The idea of including Reddick in a deal for someone has been discussed a lot recently, and it’s not as far-fetched as it may seem. It’s unfortunate as the Jets need help on defense, but why keep someone who isn’t even going to play, when you can get rid of him and get something great in return?

One caveat of course will be finding out whether or not the Raiders are willing to meet Reddick’s asking price.  According to Zach Rosenblatt of The Athletic, several teams hung up on Eagles GM Howie Roseman when told of Reddick’s salary demands as he was being shopped.   Were the Raiders one of those teams?

Obviously, the Jets will probably have to include a second or third round draft pick in the deal, and maybe some addition cash compensation. However, Reddick could more than be the guy that helps push this deal over the finish line. With one of the Raiders better players, Malcolm Koonce out for the year, they have a big need for pass-rush help. Just thinking about a Reddick and Maxx Crosby duo could spell danger for anyone facing the Raiders defense.

Reddick turned 30 less than two weeks ago, but he should still have a few good years left in him. One of Reddick’s best years came in 2022 on the Philadelphia Eagles where he picked up 49 total tackles, and landed a career-high 16 sacks. Last year, Reddick declined a little bit, but finished with a total of 38 total tackles and 11 sacks. So, despite his slide down in statistics, Reddick is still a force on the defensive line. While it’s a shame he won’t play for the Jets, they may as well get something for him.

As of right now, with the Raiders still trying to compete, the potential acquisition of Haason Reddick could be a very welcomed one. Unfortunately, Davante Adams for Reddick one-for-one probably would not work, so the Jets would have to attach a pick to it. This is a very legitimate scenario which could happen in the coming days or weeks. While the Raiders still have some time to shop Adams around, be sure that Rodgers is campaigning to land one of the greatest wide receivers he ever played with to his arsenal.
