Many Christians are all excited and full of anticipation over the much discussed ‘Revelation 12 sign’ that is to appear in the heavens on September 23. Just a quick update for those who have somehow missed this, the Bible writes:
As the verse states, it is a sign in heaven. And on September 23, this sign will indeed appear in the sky over Jerusalem. Although hidden from the eye because of the daylight, we know it is there thanks to modern astronomy software.
September 23, 2017. The sky over Jerusalem
This specific alignment occurs only very few times (Mercury, Mars and Venus have to be in the constellation of Leo to make it a crown of 12 stars). But if we take in consideration that the child is represented by the ‘king planet’ Jupiter which happens to move out from between the legs of the virgin after being in the belly area for 42 weeks!!; then we have a unique situation that only occurs once in 7000 years. For young creationists that stick to the 7000 year timeline of the Bible, this means once ever! (In any case, whatever you might believe, it is once in the Biblical history).
This sign is by many eschatologists recently accepted as a sign of the rapture of the church or in any case as a sign for the coming tribulation period. Either way it is highly significant as an end-time sign.
What makes it more special is the fact that it occurs on the Biblical feast of Rosh Hashanah, the Hebrew new year, also known as the feast of trumpets, feast of the last trump or feast of which no one knows the day or the hour.
However what is not highlighted in the many discussions is the fact that that day is also the fall equinox. This might seem insignificant, but it is one of the two days in the year that the sun rises exactly in the east. That links it to Jesus in many ways.
Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem from the east (through the eastern gate) on the one day that He was honored as King (Luke 19:37).
And as prophesied, He will return again trough that gate:
And it was for this very prophecy, written down in ca. 600BC, that the Ottoman Turks closed the gate in 1530AD, and made a cemetery in front of it. In order to prevent the Messiah from returning.
But different scriptures show that it will not stop Jesus. Psalm 24 even speaks of the opening of the gate. Note that both Ezekiel’s prophecy of the closing of the gate as well as Psalm 24 about the opening were written ages before Jesus first advent!
Closed Eastern Gate
But the Bible also tells us that the direction of the entrance to the Garden of Eden pointed to the east (Genesis 3:24). And so did the entrances of the tabernacle and the two temples that stood in Jerusalem.
In the book of Revelation we can read that Jesus is the true morning star (Revelation 22:16) that rises in the east (2 Peter 1:19). And when Jesus was born the magi saw a star in the east (Matthew 2:2). And there is a greater mystery that links it directly to the sign in the sky on September 23. Jesus was most likely born on September 11, 3BC. That date, just like September 23, 2017 was on the Biblical feast of Rosh Hashanah. According to the Hebrew tradition Jesus was circumcised 8 days later which would have been on Yom Kippur and was ready to ‘tabernacle’ among us after the typical 5 days of healing: on the feast of Tabernacles, Sukkoth…the fall equinox.
September,3 BC. Dates surrounding Jesus’ birth
When going to the birth date of Jesus in Stellarium (astronomy software), we find something remarkable as well. Take note however that we need to use the year 2 BC because of the non-existence of the year 0 in our calendar (http://www.stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#.22There_is_no_year_0.22.2C_or_.22BC_dates_are_a_year_out.22).
We find again the sign of the woman in the sky. This time the 9 star constellation of Leo is completed to a 12 star crown by Venus, Mercury and Jupiter.
September 11, 3BC. The sky over Jerusalem
And even the resurrection, 33 years later, March 22 on our calendar, happened on the spring equinox.
So there is a clear link between Jesus, birth, Rosh Hashanah, the sign of the woman in the sky and the equinox. This makes the event this year on September 23 even more significant as all of this converges. Take also in consideration that this event takes place exactly 33 days after the solar eclipse of August 21. 33 is a Biblically significant date and was the age of Jesus when He died on the cross. God calls for our attention as He has laid out the future on the canvas of the firmament (Genesis 1:14). We better pay attention.
