Solar Eclipse August 21, a harbinger?

For most people last week’s solar eclipse was just a beautiful event in the skies as a result of a cosmic coincidence causing the necessary alignment of the sun, moon and earth. Other expected major events to happen as this ‘doom sign’ appeared.

However no major catastrophe happened in the USA (on that day!). And so we move on.

But solar eclipses have been ominous signs for specific nations over which they appeared in times past. Not every eclipse, but some that are out of the ordinary. The question then is: is this one special? There are indeed some peculiarities about this eclipse. One is the path. It was visible from the east to the west coast of the USA. That has not happened since 1776, the year in which the declaration of independence of America was signed. Moreover as some noted, there were no less than seven towns by the name of Salem on the path of totality. Seven being a Biblically significant number, as is the name Salem. It is derived from ‘shalom’ (peace) and it is the ancient name of Jeru-salem.

Here we have one factor pointing to the beginning of the USA, might this then be a harbinger of the end of the USA? We have another factor pointing to peace, might this then be a harbinger of the end of peace for the USA? We don’t know for sure.

Probably even more intriguing is the date of this eclipse. Solar eclipses always take place on a full moon. That might not mean much to westerners, but a full moon is the start of a new month on the Biblical calendar (or Jewish calendar). In this case it is the month of Elul. Thus August 21 was Elul 1. This date, Elul 1, is a special date with some history attached to it.

Elul 1 is the beginning of 40 days of Teshuva (repentance) leading up to the day of Atonement (Yom Kippur). In that it is a time of testing (which the number 40 always is in the Bible); a time to get things right before God in order to prevent judgment. On Elul 1 the prophet Jonah was sent to Nineveh to deliver God’s message. The Ninevites had 40 days time to repent in order to avoid destruction.

It seems the alarm clock has rang for the USA and it is time to wake up and get right while we can.
