Daejeon Metropolitan City will be accepting applications from February 6 to 19 for plots at the “Bokyong-dong Public Urban Agriculture Farm (578 Bokyong-dong, Yuseong-gu)” to promote citizens’ healthy leisure activities and to vitalize urban agriculture.
The vegetable gardens to be allotted this time consist of a total of 360 plots (16 sections, 7,200?), and any Daejeon citizen interested in urban agriculture may apply.
In particular, this year the city plans to give priority in allocating 25 of the total plots to daycare centers and kindergartens located in Daejeon that apply, thereby providing growing children with opportunities for hands-on learning in nature.
Applications can be submitted through the “Daejeon Metropolitan City OK Reservation Service,” and in principle, each household (or organization) may apply for only one plot (20? per plot).
Allottees will be selected by lottery, and after paying an allotment fee of 30,000 won, they will be able to use the vegetable gardens from March 23 to November 20.
Park Ikkyu, head of the Agricultural and Life Policy Division of Daejeon Metropolitan City, said, “Every year, citizens show great interest in the allotment gardens and report high satisfaction,” adding, “We hope this will be a meaningful time to experience the preciousness of nature and the joy of harvest by growing vegetables themselves.”
