The United States and Israel launched a massive joint military operation against Iran, reportedly “wiping out” key segments of the country’s military and political leadership. Dubbed ”Operation Roaring Lion,” the strikes targeted military sites, command structures, and nuclear facilities across Iran. Israeli and U.S. sources reported that the strikes successfully targeted top Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the president, and the head of the armed forces. The assault involved over 200 aircraft, including stealth platforms and hypersonic missiles, and reportedly overwhelmed Iranian air defenses.
In an 8-minute video posted to social media, President Trump described the campaign as “massive and ongoing”. He told Iranian protesters that this was their ”greatest chance” to “take back” their country and topple their rulers. Trump explicitly called for Iranians to “take over your government” and described the strikes as a way to end the Iranian security threat to the U.S. permanently.
Iran retaliated by launching waves of missiles toward Israel and U.S. targets throughout the Middle East, with explosions reported in Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. Major transit hubs like Dubai suspended all flights, and Gulf Arab countries reported intercepting missiles after Tehran warned it would strike the region if attacked.
