Caitlin Clark issues cautious statement after injury announcement

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark has already missed two games for the Indiana Fever this season, both of which were because of a nagging back injury.

The newly minted three-time All-Star sat out Indiana’s last game, a 111-87 win over the Los Angeles Sparks on June 27. This was after she exited their game against the Phoenix Mercury three days earlier and was unable to return.

Unfortunately, Clark is now set to miss a second straight game, and her third of the season. This is after the 6-foot guard herself announced that she will not play on Sunday against the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces.

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark to sit out Sunday vs. Aces

Clark was not able to practice earlier this week as she continued to nurse her back injury. She rejoined her team on the practice court on Friday. However, the positive development came with some bad news.

“I will be out Sunday, but I’m feeling a lot better, excited to get back into practice today,” she told reporters.

The silver lining, however, is that Clark revealed that she does not expect to be out for much longer. In fact, she’s looking to return for Indiana’s upcoming back-to-back set. The Fever face the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday, followed by a rematch against the Mercury on Thursday.

Clark, however, expressed some caution amid the Fever’s busy schedule.

“Feeling really, really positive about getting back into one of the games at the back-to-back,” she said. “Obviously, it’s difficult coming back in a back-to-back, so we’ll have to be cautious of that.

“But I feel a lot better, and like I said, I’m excited to get back into practice. And this week has been very helpful for my overall health.”

The Fever are in the midst of a seven-day break between games. Clark last played on June 24, which means that if she returns on the front end of the back-to-back on July 8, she would have had 13 days to rest and recuperate.

At this point, however, there is no guarantee that Clark will be back by then. She will work hard to get herself ready, but until her final status is confirmed, nothing is set in stone.
