Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark receives major news on Friday
WNBA free agency is now in full swing, and Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever has been one of the most active teams thus far.
On Tuesday, one day before the free agency negotiating period officially opened, the Fever extended the qualifying offers for both Kelsey Mitchell and Lexie Hull. This put the team in an advantageous position to renew the contracts of both key players.
Reports emerged on Thursday that the Fever had agreed on a new deal for backup center Damiris Dantas. This marked Indiana’s first new contract in free agency.
More news surfaced on Friday, and it’s the major update that Clark and the rest of the Fever faithful have been waiting for.

Caitlin Clark gets Indiana Fever teammate Kelsey Mitchell back
The big news coming out of Indiana on Friday centers on Mitchell’s new deal. According to reports, Mitchell and the Fever have agreed on a one-year, $1.4 million supermax contract. This means that Mitchell will return for her ninth season with the Fever.
It is important to note that the new deal is of historic proportions. In her previous eight years in Indiana, Mitchell earned roughly $1.12 million. She’s pocketing more than that in 2026 as the first $1M+ player in Fever history.

Mitchell is Indiana’s best player outside of Clark. Last season, the three-time All-Star carried the squad amid Clark’s injury-marred campaign. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged a career-high 20.2 points on 45.6% shooting, 1.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.5 triples in 31.4 minutes per contest. Mitchell finished fifth in the MVP race.
Clark is now fully healthy and is eager to make amends in Year 3. A championship is within reach for the Fever, especially now that they enter the 2026 campaign with their core of Clark, Mitchell and Aliyah Boston intact.
