Notre Dame responds to alleged incident involving Marcus Freeman
Per the South Bend Tribune, a police report was filed against Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman on Sunday.

The alleged incident occurred between Freeman and Chris Fleeger, a New Prairie high school wrestling coach. Per the Tribune, “physical contact allegedly occurred” between Freeman and Fleeger.
On Sunday afternoon, Notre Dame released a statement on the alleged incident, claiming Freeman did not engage physically with anyone. The alleged incident started when Vinney Freeman, Marcus’ son, was “verbally accosted” during his wrestling match.
“Vinny Freeman, head coach Marcus Freeman’s son, was verbally accosted during and after his wrestling match by a local wrestling coach,” the statement reads, via Pete Thamel of ESPN. “Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened and removed Vinny from the situation.
“At no point did Coach Freeman physically engage with anyone. We believe that the police report, which includes video evidence, fully exonerates Coach Freeman and makes clear these accusations are totally unfounded.”

Freeman is 43-12 during his time at Notre Dame since taking over the program before its bowl game during the 2021 season. He led the Irish to an appearance in the national championship in 2024.
Freeman has been linked to teams in the NFL since the Irish finished their season with a 10-2 record and No. 11 ranking. ND and Freeman agreed to adjust the head coach’s contract before 2026.
Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network on Sunday morning, the contract adjustment has not stopped league teams from keeping an eye on Freeman during this hiring cycle. Freeman has been most closely linked to the New York Giants.
