Cubs receiving trade interest in star infielder from NL opponent
The Chicago Cubs have been swirling around a lot in the MLB rumor mill over the last few weeks. Jed Hoyer appears to have his hand in quite a few different markets, but so far the team has not been able to make a highly impactful move to increase their World Series chances.
While most of the rumors have revolved around the Cubs bringing in outside player in, a new rumor has come up that would see Chicago trading a player away.
According to a report from Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, Nico Hoerner has been the target of trade interest from the San Francisco Giants.
Hoerner has been thrown around in potential trade ideas over the last couple of years. Despite those rumors, the Cubs have not been all that open to moving on from him.
During the 2025 MLB season, Hoerner put together a strong campaign for Chicago. He played in 156 games throughout the year, hitting seven home runs to go along with 61 RBI. He also slashed .297/.345/.394.
Once again, Hoerner was also elite defensively. That has become a staple year in and year out throughout his career.
Would it be safe to say that Hoerner is untouchable? Probably not, but the Cubs would likely not part ways with him unless an aggressive offer came to the table. Perhaps the Giants could come with that kind of an offer to make Hoyer think about dealing.
More than likely, Hoerner will be back with Chicago in 2026. It would be a total surprise to see the Cubs deal him away.
Expect to continue hearing more rumors about the team in the coming days and weeks. It’s clear that Chicago would like to make some moves to pursue World Series contention. Moving on from Hoerner doesn’t seem to be a step in that direction.
