Stocks Rebound in a Big Way in Shutout Win

The Ravens played their most complete game of the year in a must-win situation in Cincinnati.  All three phases played well and complemented each other, leading to an easy 24-0 victory.

There wasn’t much to be down for this game, which is a reversal of the previous few weeks.

Stock Up

Lamar Jackson

Yes, Lamar Jackson only threw 12 passes, but he was very efficient and his numbers should have been better. Zay Flowers dropped one pass that turned into an interception, and Zay also should have caught a TD at the back of the end zone. Even putting aside the idea that Zay catching the pass for a first down allows the Ravens to run more plays, Lamar still should have been 10-for-12 for around 175 yards and 3 TDs, with no picks. He also continues to look much better moving around, and his second-quarter scramble for a first down seemed to jump-start the offense.

The Jones Boys

Dre’mont Jones and Travis Jones dominated this game up front.  They were both in the backfield a lot. Dre’mont provided a steady pass rush and Travis pushed the pocket all afternoon.

Tavius Robinson

Tavius Robinson is perhaps the most underrated player on the Ravens. Very few national NFL reporters/commentators would even know his name.. However, he may be this team’s version Jarret Johnson (making his mentor proud), as he is a do-everything-well type guy that really helps out the edge of the defense.  It was great to have him back.

Alohi Gilman

AFC Defensive Player of the Week Alohi Gilman was all over the place in this game. He had the best PFF grade on the entire defense and continues to impress. I know everyone is pointing to Odafe Oweh’s sack numbers in LA (funny how when he had double-digit sacks with the Ravens last year, Ravens fans still called him a bust but now he is “the one who got away”) but Gilman has made this defense better.

Run Game

As Lamar continues to move better, the run game is going to be a bigger threat. Against the Bengals, the Ravens ran for 189 yards on only 24 carries, which is a 7.9 average. Three of those “rushes” were kneel downs, otherwise the YPC would be even higher. Henry and Keaton Mitchell have become an excellent 1-2 punch and that will be key as they try to make the playoffs.

TE Play

The three-headed monster the Ravens have at TE is really showing up well in many ways. Whether it be blocking (Charlie Kolar is really blocking at a high level) or making big catches, these three are key cogs to the offense. Isaiah Likely has had some boneheaded plays lately and he was a non-factor last week, but he will be a big part of things down the stretch.

Stock Down

Injuries

The Ravens are pretty healthy, after being decimated in the first two months of the year. That said, they have lost Teddye Buchanan for the season and Chidobe Awuzie is dealing with a foot injury and may or may not miss this week’s game. The Ravens also have several players beat up. Now, this isn’t really any different than any other team, but with the margin for error so small, they can’t afford to lose key guys. We must hope that they can stay healthy for what we hope is effectively a playoff game in Pittsburgh.
