Chicago Bears: Lions could be plotting big-time revenge on Ben Johnson
The Chicago Bears got the steal of the offseason when they plucked away Ben Johnson from the Detroit Lions.

The first-year head coach has the Bears leading the NFC North by 1.5 games over the Green Bay Packers in Week 17. Chicago has a chance to earn the NFC’s No. 1 seed with two games remaining on its schedule.
The Lions, to put it bluntly, have been bad this season without Johnson calling the offensive plays (and with Aaron Glenn taking the New York Jets coaching job).
The Lions were eliminated from playoff contention with a 23-10 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day. Detroit head coach Dan Campbell has been calling offensive plays since November, but it was too late for the team to make a push for the playoffs.
After Thursday’s loss, Campbell suggested he’d look to make changes with his coaching staff. Offensive coordinator John Morton could be on the chopping block.

Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports thinks the league will try to raid Johnson’s coaching staff in the offseason. The Bears could block teams from taking offensive coordinator Declan Doyle. However, Jones thinks Campbell might try to steal from Chicago for 2026.
“League sources believe Dan Campbell will be in the market for a new offensive coordinator this year, and perhaps he pulls from Johnson’s staff one year after Johnson took flight from Detroit,” Jones wrote.
Defensive backs coach and defensive passing game coordinator Al Harris, pass coordinator Press Taylor, quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett, and running backs coach Eric Bieniemy were named as potential coaches league teams have their eyes on.
The Bears will travel to play the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday before finishing the regular season at home against the Lions. The latter game could decide the division and the top seed for the NFC.
While the Lions have nothing to play for, they will try to play spoiler against Chicago in Week 18. Detroit won the first meeting 52-21 in Week 2.
But Detroit might give the Bears another loss in the offseason due to the profound success their former offensive coordinator has found in Chicago.
