Keenan Allen takes veiled shot at Chicago Bears
Keenan Allen is in the midst of a bounce-back season, and seems to have found a home in Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s scheme and in quarterback Justin Herbert’s supporting cast.
Through the season’s first 10 weeks, Allen has already caught 52 passes for 539 yards and four touchdowns, well on his way to surpassing his production from his lone season in Chicago, in 2024.
Keenan Allen couldn’t wait to get back to Chargers
When the Bears acquired Allen in the spring of 2024, it was in hopes that his veteran presence would elevate incoming No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, at quarterback, and that he could be a reliable veteran alongside DJ Moore and eventual first-round rookie receiver Rome Odunze.
However, after catching just 70 passes for 744 yards and seven touchdowns last season, it sure sounds like Allen couldn’t wait to get out of the Windy City.
“I was gonna do whatever I could to come back,” Allen recently told reporters.
The Bears originally acquired Allen in a trade with the Chargers, in exchange for a fourth-round draft choice, but the two sides never agreed on a long-term contract extension and the 33-year-0ld returned to Los Angeles, on a one-year deal worth $8.5 million.
Chicago’s offense is beginning to fire on all cylinders, with Williams playing some of the best football of his young career over the past month, even before rookie receiver Luther Burden takes on an expanded role, and Allen is thriving in Los Angeles. It seems that both sides are hitting stride without one another, but Allen clearly believes that his best fit is on the receiveng end of pases from Herbert.
