New York Jets Wide Receiver Accepts Pay Cut to Stay at the MetLife Stadium for Coming Season

Major changes are coming to MetLife Stadium. Aaron Rodgers and Devante Adams have left, but the new pairing of general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn have managed to tie down wide receiver Allen Lazard, who has agreed to take a pay cut to remain a member of their New York Jets roster.
The 29-year-old moved to the Jets in 2023, having previously played with both Rodgers and Adams at Green Bay, but managed just seven starts in the 2024 season, scoring five touchdowns in the process.
New York Jets fans are a loyal bunch, and after the failed Rodgers experiment, they will be once again hoping to put an end to their lengthy postseason drought, which dates all the way back to 2010. Those who are optimistic to bet on that run coming to an end in 2025 can use this amazing Fanatics sportsbook promo to help make the bet even more enticing.
The last two seasons have been something of a rollercoaster for the Jets. The arrival of four-time NFL MVP Rodgers in 2023 should have signaled a change in fortunes, but the veteran was injured during his first game and missed the rest of the season.
Then, in 2024, even though he was back to full health, the star quarterback failed to make an impact, and Robert Saleh was fired with the Jets at 2-3. His replacement, Jeff Ulbrich, could not turn things around, and they finished with a woeful 5-12 record.
It had looked as if Lazard would leave, chiefly due to his $11 million (non-guaranteed) salary, but the Jets front office persuaded the star to stick around and accept a $2.25M pay cut.
Glenn discussed the importance of retaining a player of Lazard’s obvious abilities, stating,
“Listen, anytime you have a player of that magnitude, he’s a really good blocker.”
“I [coached] against him a number of times when he was in Green Bay, so I know what he brings to the table.”
New coach Glenn has made it clear that his first goal with the Jets is not to push for unrealistic goals, which is perhaps a refreshing approach for fans of the team to hear. The 52-year-old is in his first head coach role, coming after a 14-year career as an NFL cornerback, and he has laid out his hopes and aspirations for 2025 and beyond,
“To me, it’s a process, and I’ve talked to our staff about this.”
“I’m not here to talk about the playoffs. I’m not here to talk about the Super Bowl when the players first get in. To me, it’s the process of actually making it that point. The two things I want to make sure we do first and foremost is establish the culture that we’ve been talking about and try to create a building environment.” Glenn added.
The fact that the Jets are into a 14-year postseason drought, it is sensible to make and set targets that are within reach, though one wonders how long the former Jets player will have to turn things around.
