Charlwood and the Met Office’s Data Deletion Deception.
The above is from the Met Office’s Location Specific Long Term Climate Averages website for the period 1991 to 2020. This whole web page has a very chequered history largely because the Met Office recently changed it from a previous iteration known as https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/climate/maps-and-data/uk-climate-averages following disclosures I made about it regarding those 103 missing stations.
But it does not end there!
Having changed the webpage in removing specific site locations, elevations and site descriptions, the Met Office were then almost magically involved in a rather inept “Debunk” of my claims via a Facebook/Meta sponsored censorship organisation risibly entitled “Science Feedback“
Darrik Burns, the woefully unqualified author in the field, not only had made no attempt to contact me prior to this publication but also declined to engage with me when I contacted him personally. Clearly he is not a scientist of any description who is unwilling to discuss anything at all – “Charlatan” would be a better description. However, the most interesting aspect is the way the Met Office is quite willing to delete or modify online evidence when challenged. I have extensive experience of the Met Office doing this whenever I start querying data……and they are still doing it.
The above deletion of the Climate Averages page and release of an amended version was the first. When I started querying data discrepancies at Manston and the additional Manston 2 site, they simply deleted access to the data for the additional site even though it is still there.
When I pursued the issues of the non-existent Lowestoft site (along with Nairn and Paisley) they simply deleted all the incriminating data with no explanation. So how does Charlwood come into this?
Over many of my reports I have pressed the point of sites reporting data both well after closure (even over half a century later as at Ambleside) and also before many sites ever came into being notably Charlwood. A sort of afterlife and ante-natal obsession the Met Office has with its weather stations. Artificially fabricated data is much more convenient than real world observed numbers.
Charlwood weather station only came into being in 2002 but was one of those selected climate averages sites for 1961 to 2020. The headline image is the 1991 to 2020 period and this is NOW (7/11/2025) what the 1961 to 1990 period looks like. {confirmed 8/11/2025}
Is this a work in progress alteration? Almost all figures deleted. I knew I had seen figures for this period in the past but had no screen captures so I tried the Internet Archive Wayback Machine only to discover it was now disabled for general UK viewing due, bizarrely, to the recent UK Online Safety Act. Luckily Grok at X is able to go past this block and recreated the former data as below from the original archived data.
So i will now be keeping an eye on this long term averages site (particularly Charlwood/Gatwick) to see what amended figures return if they ever do.
I have referred to the famous George Orwell quote in the past “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past” Are we about to see the past rewritten?
