Magnadapis compared to Merycoidodon
The LRT
(large reptile tree, 2338 taxa) was made large in order to minimize taxon exclusion. It nests taxa together that have not been tested together. Sometimes those taxa are attracted to one another. Case in point: the traditional primate, Magnadapis and the traditional artiodactyl, Merycoidodon (Fig 1).
Is this convergence? Or homoplasy?

Figure 1. Adapis, a traditional primate, compared to the much larger oreodont, Merycoidodon to scale and enlarged. This is why oreodonts retained a postorbital bar.
Earlier a hypothetical interrelationship
was demonstrated between basal primates and basal hoofed mammals, with transitional taxa including Agriochoerus latifrons, the artiodactyl with thumbs.
Magnadapis quercyi
(Godinot and Couette 2008, MNHN QU 10875 Late Eocene, 11cm skull length) is a sister to Adapis in the LRT.
