‘The Secret Place’…The Hidden Innermost Heart of Man — Via the Wayfaring Gal — Sept. 20, 2026

Jer 17:9-10:

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer 17:9)
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings. (Jer 17:10)

Twenty-seven years ago, I knew nothing about the word of God. Growing up, I learned street-smarts, which taught me much about people and how evil we can be. Today, I still struggle with the fact, that I too, have the ability within me, to do evil.

The “heart of man” is our problem; and it is the “hidden inner heart” that God looks at and wants us to deal with; that is the crux of the matter. It is the “Secret Place” we can’t accept nor even acknowledge (“who can know it”).

And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: (Jer 32:39)

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. (Ezek 36:26)

Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. (2Cor 3:3)

But how do we get there?

Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart? (Job 38:36)

The Bible has plenty to say on this subject, and while God’s word speaks of “hidden things,” “secret things,” and “mysteries” that we need to come to terms with, and learn about; it all relates back to the heart of man.

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. (Ps 51:6)

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; (Prov 2:4)

Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. (1Cor 4:5)

That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; (Col 2:2)

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Heb 4:12)

God started showing us our “heart issue” back in the Old Testament (starting with Adam and Eve), and it is carried through into the New testament.

This Blog post started with Jeremiah 17:9-10, verses which say it all. We will say the Lord is speaking of others—not ourselves—but it is all of us. Some people are just more evil than others and will act out; but we are all nonetheless, still evil.

yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil…(Eccl 9:3)

If ye then, being evil…(Matt 7:11; Luke 11:13)

It is the reason Jesus came into this world so long ago, to show us all “the way” (Matt 7:14) to true, Biblical salvation; offering a way to rescue us from ourselves.

There are many places in the New Testament where Jesus speaks of the true state of the unregenerate heart of man.

Mark 7:18-23:

And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; (Mark 7:18)
Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? (Mark 7:19)
And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. (Mark 7:20)
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, (Mark 7:21)
Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: (Mark 7:22)
All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (Mark 7:23)

John 2:24-25:

But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, (John 2:24)
And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man. (John 2:25)

John 5:39-42:

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. (John 5:39)
And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. (John 5:40)
I receive not honour from men. (John 5:41)
But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. (John 5:42)

This is the missing link: we do not have God’s type of love within us. That’s what we lost when Adam and Eve “fell” in the Garden of Eden, and that’s why Jesus said we must be born again.

Beware: today’s church does not teach the true way of salvation given by Jesus; which is the strait gate/narrow way. It is the only way to “The Secret Place.”

With each passing day we are drawing ever closer to the end of the age. Time is short and we will all be meeting our Maker in judgment; whether it will be at the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at His “second advent”; or at the revelation of Jesus Christ during rebirth, we will all be leaving this place shortly; in our appointed time.

Hebrews 9:27-28:

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Heb 9:27)
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. (Heb 9:28)

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; (1Pet 1:13)

The question is, in the end, do we die with our unregenerate heart, or will we be born again “in Truth”?

The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. (Ps 145:18)

Those are the only two options and they determine where we will spend eternity…so let us choose wisely.

Eccl 12:13-14:

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. (Eccl 12:13)
For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. (Eccl 12:14)

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. (1Pet 3:4)
