So far, I have not seen any attempt at explaining why this Lear Jet went down in Philly.
The only thing I have seen published so far is the taxi conversation between the pilot and ATC, and the video of the plane shooting almost straight down into the ground.
My initial analysis is:
1 – There was no indication of trouble during Taxi and lift off.
2 – The pilot did not call a Mayday, meaning whatever it was that brought them down was sudden and all encompassing.
3 – The 2 ~ 3 seconds of video of the plane, at extreme distance, flying into the ground seems to show an unusual amount of light.
This level of light is not from the Nav-Lights, but seems to be from a large external flame source.
This may mean there was a fuel tank rupture and ignition event, or possibly the engine suffered a catastrophic failure with an immediate fire event.
Assuming there was no nefarious activities here, this would explain the bright light observed as the aircraft as it headed towards ground, and might explain the lack of a Mayday call, as the pilot(s) would wholly consumed with cockpit alarms, warnings, and the activity of trying to determine the problem and execute corrective actions to sustain flight. This is sometimes called Cockpit Fever or Instrument Fever, where the pilot(s) are so consumed by their emergency warnings and instrument panel, they don’t even look up to see what their attitude is.
