Direct Orthopedic Care (doc) Announces Second Boise Location

New Broadway Facility Provides Greater Access to Specialists with Expedited Care and Less Cost than the Emergency Room

Boise, Idaho (MMD Newswire) December 8, 2015 — More than a year ago, Allied Orthopedics Group opened Direct Orthopedic Care (DOC) – Boise’s first walk-in orthopedics urgent care facility. “We saw a need in our community to provide an emergency room alternative to treating sports and work-related injuries. It was our goal to offer our patients an expedited, less costly experience with direct access to the necessary specialists,” said Dr. David Hassinger of Allied Orthopedics Group.

In less than one year, DOC averaged between 450 and 500 patients a month-nearly 3,000 new patients in the first year alone. The facility and service has been such a success that a second Boise location opens today at 1790 S. Broadway Avenue. The board-certified specialists at DOC treat a variety of orthopedic conditions including fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains and tears.

Research shows the average expenditure of a typical Boise-area emergency room orthopedic procedure, including x-rays, splint and facility fee, costs $1780.50. Unfortunately, the patient is then referred by the ER physician to an orthopedic specialist to actually repair the injury. Not only does this add additional costs and fees, it also adds additional time with an untreated injury.

The same visit at Direct Orthopedic Care, with same-day access to a specialist, costs $504.34.

DOC also reduces the average Emergency Room waiting time from 2:14 to just less than one hour for the same service.

Long and costly Emergency Room visits to treat orthopedic-related injuries are no longer necessary. “Now with two locations to choose from, our patients have even greater access to the specialists they need while saving considerable time and money,” said Hassinger.

Direct Orthopedic Care is the only orthopedic urgent care facility in the area and is open every day, 365 days a year with no appointment necessary. With two Boise locations (7979 W. Rifleman Street and 1790 S. Broadway Avenue), DOC is open Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
