Independence Church Fights Back Against Drug And Alcohol Abuse
October 14, 2015 (MMD Newswire) — Drug and alcohol abuse is a growing problem throughout the state and even the nation. Unfortunately, the effects of this issue are being felt in our own community at an alarming rate. In fact, Northern Kentucky has one of the highest rates for heroin death and arrests in the state. Even more disturbing is the rise of this problem among high school students. Despite the threat to the health and safety of our families, the overall efforts to bring awareness to the issue have been minimal.
“There’s not a neighborhood in Northern Kentucky that doesn’t have heroin in it,” says Independence Fire District Fire Fighter and EMT, Brandon Gray. “It’s in the cities, it’s in the rural and suburban areas; and it’s literally killing the people of Northern Kentucky one by one.”
This is precisely why Nicholson Christian Church is hosting Drug House Odyssey. This walk-‐through presentation will demonstrate the effects drug and alcohol abuse can have on the lives of those in our community through dramatic enactments of all too realistic scenes of what can happen when people choose to get involved in drug and alcohol abuse. This year’s theme, “It Only Takes One,” contrasts how one poor decision can have a lasting impact and encourages students to be the “one” to stand up against this growing epidemic. “Drug House Odyssey is a great place to educate your kids, your family and friends, about drug abuse. And not just that, but also the harmful effects alcohol abuse,” says Gray. This is the third year the church will host the event, which will be held this year October 21-‐23 from 6:30-‐9 p.m.
Nicholson Christian Church is a non-‐denominational church in Independence, KY whose vision is to be an authentic, life-‐changing church that makes a difference for Christ in Northern Kentucky and around the world. www.nicholsonchristian.org
