Venezuelan Film Composer is creating the soundtrack of four Hollywood productions this fall, as he dreams of breaking the ''Latino'' musician stigma

September 17, 2015 (MMD Newswire) — Sandro Morales-Santoro, composer of hit series like “Chosen” and films like “Retribution” and “A Christmas Wedding Tail”, is currently composing the score of four independent films produced in Los Angeles, to be released in the fourth quarter of 2015.

With roots in the small city of Maracay, Sandro grew up feeding his need for music from a blend of Venezuela’s rich folkloric rhythms, along with an inescapable influence from the pop and grunge American and British bands of those years, and the country’s successful relationship with classical concert music. This melting pot of a culture had a defining effect on Sandro’s artistic expression, and it’s in major evidence on every piece of music he’s written.

This prolific musician has credits on a multitude of hit shows like the Emmy Nominated “Million Dollar Listings New York” and “East Los High”; comedies like “King of the Nerds” and popular reality shows like “Vanderpump Rules”.

 

He has been recognized in his native Venezuela with the “Mara” and “Tacarigua” Awards for Best Composer of 2014.

Sandro is currently working at his LA studio on an electronic score for the thriller “Sleeper”, the opera prima of Writer-Director Christopher Miles. He is also creating the soundtrack for the suspense flick “Wrong Roommate”.

He recently completed the music score for the film “All I Want for Christmas” starring 90201 alumnae Shannen Doherty, to be premiered this holiday season. For this family friendly film he created an orchestral score with a tasteful touch of holyday magic.

Next, he’ll start work on the dark comedy “Situational” by Writer-Director Scott Simonsen, which will hit the festival circuit later this year.

A Berklee College of Music alumnus, Sandro’s versatility and eclectic style has positioned him as a sought after composer for film and TV in an impressive array of genres.

As he takes on projects for English speaking and Hispanic audiences, he dreams of making it commonplace for Latino composers to be considered for a wider variety of film genres and music styles.

“In my experience, Latin-American composers are still being type-casted. We tend to be considered for projects that feature Hispanic characters so that we bring in the ‘Latin flavor’ to a show, which creates opportunities for us, but as it’s happening with Latino actors, us composers need to demonstrate our versatility so that we’re seen as a viable option for any film genre. I’m very proud of my roots and I will always enjoy a project that takes advantage of my knowledge in Latin-American styles, but I also want film producers and directors to see me not only as a Hispanic, but as an all around Composer, capable of writing for an English speaking audience.”
