Mega function sofa for tiny space built by Larry Skelf, owner of Stuff it Upholstery

Chattanooga, Tn. (MMD Newswire) January 16, 2015 — Chattanooga furniture designer, Larry Skelf, owner of Stuff it Upholstery was selected for a new approach to a feature of a home being constructed in Apison Tennessee. The episode required using fabric from the home owners travels to become part of the furniture and space saving techniques.

When Mr. Skelf received a call from someone claiming to be with “Tiny House Nation”, he treated it as a prank call from yet another telemarketer. He says he almost missed a very rare opportunity. “I just couldn’t believe what they said they wanted me to do. They have unlimited access to designers. I was honored to be part of their team”.

Skelf says he has a vested interest in small house living, because it was this concept that made it easy for him to come together with a plan for the Tiny House Nation show.

“Basically, Tiny House’s producers and designer gave me free reign to get together a multi function daybed, with specific space constraints”.

Small homes, tiny homes and micro homes are becoming more and more popular. Micro homes are considered to be under 100 square feet. They are most often occupied in countries such as China and Japan. Tiny houses, micro apartments, campers, dorms and multiple families in single family dwellings are gaining popularity for economic and also earth friendly, smart use of land reasons. It is expected that they will become pretty much a mainstay in years to come.

Larry says he put together a concept for the show that “really wet the whistles of the cast, crew and producers of the show”. I decided that inside the framework, usually considered to be a taboo area for functionality, could be better used for storage for clothes, ties, fabric and another bed. “I even thought it might be a good idea to install a pop up TV in one of the arms of the sofa, and a sound bar in the inside back. This would probably be a welcome add on, or add in, for the young home owners game times”, Skelf says.
