Professor Jiang Xueqin asserts that artificial intelligence functions as a marketing illusion rather than true machine sentience. He compares contemporary large language models to simple chatbots developed in the 1960s, such as ELIZA. 

President Donald Trump is building a massive, six-story underground military and security complex beneath the new White House ballroom at the site of the demolished East Wing. Also being built is a rooftop drone port, missile and drone defenses, and storage for sniper equipment and ammunition. Emergency facilities will include a military hospital, secure command spaces, research facilities, and military meeting rooms replacing older emergency infrastructure like the post-9/11 Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) bunker. 

While the administration frames the underground works and above-ground ballroom as an integrated, hardened national security and defense system, preservation groups like the National Trust for Historic Preservation have challenged the project in court. Critics and lawsuits argue the massive project bypassed required environmental reviews and congressional authorization, though courts have allowed underground security-related construction to proceed while legal battles continue.
