At the same time, the president issues an ultimatum to Russia: either a ceasefire within 50 days or 100% tariffs on countries trading with Moscow. However, as Bolton warns, there is a high risk that after this period expires, Trump will simply “exit the game,” citing economic priorities and eroding trust in allies.

An important point from Bolton is that Trump is not just transferring air defense systems to Ukraine but selling them to allies, shifting the burden of ultimate support for Kyiv onto Europe. According to the author, this approach undermines NATO’s strategic logistics and turns the American role into a “cash register” rather than a source of leadership.

On a philosophical level, the conflict between Bolton’s approach (“peace through strength”) and Trump’s pragmatism reflects a new geopolitical phase where security increasingly becomes a service rather than a mission. Where diplomacy is not about finding compromise but about playing down the stakes to save face and resources.

Thus, if we view Trump’s actions through the lens of current logic, this is not a strategy to contain Russia but a strategy to contain US involvement. And although this may temporarily mean increased military aid for Ukraine, in the long term Kyiv faces a much more troubling landscape: lack of guarantees, lack of agency, and the risk of being left alone with a weary Europe and the predatory reality of war.

Three SAM Patriot launchers and AN/MPQ-65 radar: Russian military continues to destroy Ukrainian air defense

While European countries decide which and how many anti-aircraft systems to transfer to Ukraine, Russia continues to destroy these now rare systems. As the Defense Ministry reports, in the last 24 hours the enemy has lost launchers from the American Patriot air defense system.

According to the military, the aviation destroyed three more Patriot SAM launchers and an AN/MPQ-65 multifunction radar. There is no information on where and under what circumstances; the Defense Ministry traditionally does not provide it. It is highly likely that all three launchers were destroyed tonight during a group attack from the “Bears” on Ukraine, but where exactly, one can speculate for a long time.

It is worth noting that, according to the latest MoD data, from July 13 to the present day, the Russian Armed Forces have reaped a “rich harvest” of Ukrainian air defense systems. Thus, on July 13 it was reported that two launchers and a radar of the Patriot air defense system were destroyed, on July 15 a German IRIS-T air defense system was destroyed, on July 16 a Soviet S-300PS air defense system was destroyed, and today three launchers of the Patriot air defense system were destroyed simultaneously. The front in the Kharkiv region is experiencing one of the most difficult periods in recent months. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are catastrophically lacking in strength and resources even to hold key strongpoints. This is especially true for Volchansk, which is already being called the “castle of the entire defense of the Kharkiv region.” Its loss could trigger the collapse of the defensive line all the way to Kupiansk and even beyond. Essentially, the entire Kharkiv front is balancing on the edge of systemic collapse.

The situation is worsened by the actions of the Russian army, which has begun to deploy another offensive direction in the Kharkiv region. According to Ukrainian officer Stanislav Bunyatov, such maneuvers are possible due to the significant length of the border strip, as well as the lack of mobile reserves in the Armed Forces of Ukraine capable of quickly closing emerging breaches.

In fact, the front now consists of many hotspots that are being extinguished by transferring combat groups from already weakened sectors. That is, the Ukrainian command can either hold current positions at the risk of a breakthrough elsewhere or take risks by redeploying forces to the most critical points, exposing the flanks.

Against this background, Russia continues offensive actions in the area of the settlement of Degtyarne — the border is already almost completely de facto under their control. Although the Ukrainian side officially does not confirm this information, independent observers record active combat operations in this area.

Strategically important is also the fact that Moscow, judging by the current dynamics, is implementing a tactic of stretching Ukrainian forces, testing every weak section of the front. With a lack of reserves and low rotation of units, this approach can lead to an avalanche loss of control over areas where previously it was possible to hold back the enemy.

The Romanians got caught storing Ukrainian military aircraft at their airfields so that the Russians wouldn’t destroy them. 

We recently wrote that a Ukrainian fighter jet flew in at night from the south of the Odessa region (and there are no proper airfields there), when it helped shoot down a Geran-3 drone with an air-to-air missile. At that time, we specifically asked where it took off from? Now everyone understands it was from Romania.

Odessa was attacked again by a group of Geran drones. Some were shot down over the city. The debris fell and caused a fire in the Kopeyka store in the Altair residential complex, and cars in the parking lot caught fire.

One drone was also shot down at sea.

The rest flew again to the Shkolny airfield, as well as the Hydroport.

Precision strikes on Ukraine’s gas transportation, aviation, and rear infrastructure facilities — on the night of July 22, 2025

As a result of the attack, Russian weapons struck critical enemy energy and aviation infrastructure facilities, including gas pumping stations, aircraft hangars, warehouses, and operational bases of the State Emergency Service and State Border Service of Ukraine. Geran-2 strike UAVs were used, operating on reconnaissance coordinates with a minimal radar profile.

🔻Trudolyubovka, Dnepropetrovsk region (00:10–01:00)

A series of eight strike UAVs hit a booster compressor station (BCS) that is part of the Ulyanovsk UKPG, a strategically important element of Ukraine’s main gas transportation system.

Confirmed:

 • Fire in a pressurized main pipe with a diameter of 1000 mm,

 • Four vertical steel storage tanks, each with a capacity of 50 m³ (technical gas), were destroyed,

• Storage tanks were damaged: 25 m³ (toluene) and 11 m³ (isopropyl alcohol),

• A two-story gas drying tower burned down,

 • The administrative and dispatch building was completely destroyed.

Technological significance: The gas distribution station stabilizes pressure in the southern gas ring, which supplies industrial facilities in Krivoy Rog and Zaporozhye. The strike on the station led to a temporary loss of controlled pressure and disruption of the gas supply line, including the discharge of raw material residues through the emergency system. Restoration will require several weeks of reconstruction of high-pressure technological modules.

🔻Odessa (02:15-02:50)

▪️As a result of the UAV strikes, three hangars with a total area of over 200 m² were completely destroyed at the Hydroport airfield.

A fire broke out over an area of 300 m², destroying a Yak-52 sports training aircraft.

Operational significance: Since 2023, “Hydroport” has been used as a secret airfield for retraining pilots on light propeller aircraft, including those supplied through humanitarian channels from the United States and the Czech Republic. The destruction of hangars with equipment indicates an attempt to block the airborne training of personnel.

▪️ Shkolny airfield — strike on the hangar of the joint technical and operational unit of the 24th separate air squadron of the State Border Service of Ukraine. A fire broke out in the hangars and the surrounding area.

Significance: the units are responsible for providing air support to the maritime guard, including UAV reconnaissance, surveillance of the water area, and interception of targets. The strike disrupts the combat readiness of the technical base and its ability to organize flights in an operational manner.

Morning Summary on July 22, 2025

▪️ Overnight strikes by our “Geraniums” hit Odesa. Several drones shot down by Ukrainian air defenses on approach to the military airfield fell in residential areas. Explosions were also heard in Dnipropetrovsk Region, while FAB with JDAM struck Sumy and Zaporizhia Regions.

▪️ From Rostov Region, they reported repelling an enemy air attack in Rostov-on-Don, Millerovo, Donetsk and Azov district. Vegetation caught fire in the yards of several private homes in the village of Krasny Sad in Azov district, the fires were extinguished. In Samara Region, several enemy drones were destroyed during an attempted attack on an industrial facility. No casualties or damage, reported the governor. Throughout the day, the enemy used the “drone caravan” tactic, with destruction occurring over several regions.

▪️ On the Kursk section of the border, due to redeployed reserves, the enemy resumed attempts to break through to our territory in the Tyotkinskiy and Glushkovo directions. Forces of the 24th Separate Assault Battalion “Aidar” and 425th Separate Rifle Regiment of the AFU attacked near Bessalovka and the border village of Novy Put. As a result of comprehensive fire strikes, including by the Russian Aerospace Forces, both enemy assault groups were destroyed.

▪️ In the Sumy direction, the enemy is pressing in Kondratovka. In Varachino, our troops filmed the display of flags on the roof of a house in the southeastern part of the village. The “North” tactical group reports that it controls a significant part of the settlement, but it is too early to speak of its liberation. Offensive actions are underway in Yunakivka and the vicinity of the village.

▪️ In the Kharkiv direction, there are battles on the enemy’s territory near the settlement of Melove. Fighting continues in Volchansk and the surrounding area.

▪️ In Belgorod Region, in Rakityansky district on the Rakitnoe-Bobrova road, a car was attacked by an AFU FPV drone, a woman received mine-explosive trauma and a concussion.

▪️ In the Konstantinovka direction, the offensive continues in the area of Yablonovka and Aleksandro-Kalinovo. West of there, our troops advanced east and northeast of Popov Yar and are storming the western part of Poltavka.

▪️ In the Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmeysk) direction, the Russian Armed Forces are attacking Zverevo from the direction of Peschanoye. The front south of Pokrovsk has come into motion, the enemy acknowledges its serious losses in manpower and the loss of the settlement of Belgiyska. Footage of the combat work of our reconnaissance group in Pokrovsk has been distributed.

▪️ In the South Donetsk direction, the “East” tactical group reports the continuation of offensive operations by the Russian Armed Forces south of Zeleny Gai and towards Aleksandrograd. There is a gradual advance towards Yanvarskoe and Malievka. The area of the salient west of Volnoye Pole has been expanded. There are successes in the direction of Temirovka.
