My wife Deanna Jaxine Stinson lived in Deer Lodge, Montana and during her time in Montana, she frequented Glacier National Park. She was curious about the hauntings at this national park. Deanna being a psychic medium has seen and witnessed many ghosts at this national park. Here is what I learned about this National Park. Belton Chalet; Many Glacier Hotel, and Lake McDonald Lodge are very haunted, with tales ranging from ghostly apparitions to mysterious noises. Let’s dive into these haunted places and try to figure out why they are haunted and who are the ghosts.
BELTON CHALET
Belton Chalet was built in 1910, this hotel is near the park’s west entrance and has numerous reports of paranormal activity. A former guest reportedly encountered a ghostly miner. The guest heard in his ear, the ghost talking and identifying himself as “Lungren”. Lungren the ghost moved a few objects in the room and then departed. The guest was shivering from fright after his encounter with Lungren. Other guests had to calm him down. Other stories include a prankster ghost called “Belton Bob”. Belton Bob was known to produce disembodied screams and move objects. The hotel staff called him Belton Bob because he needed to have a name. The staff refer to him as a very mischievous ghost. The rooms would be totally empty, and there was no one on the register that was assigned to these empty rooms. When entering the empty rooms, the water would come on by itself, it would happen in the sink or in the shower. There were times that the staff would get chills, because you can feel that you are being watched. You know that you are in an empty room with a ghost. There was no denying it. Deanna has felt the presence of several ghosts in this hotel. Deanna does not feel the ghosts are malicious, but they do enjoy playing games with the guests and staff. A staff person who encountered one of the spirits heard what she described as “a horrendous, blood-curdling scream” emanate from the first-floor hallway and later she felt the spirit hid her reading glasses, only for the glasses to show up at an area that was checked many times over. According to a staff member, the paranormal presence that stands out the most isn’t Belton Bob, but a little girl ghost. A hotel guest was showering when he reportedly turned to see a little girl in there with him. He ran down to the main desk with his wife and belongings, hair still wet, and gave the clerk the key before departing. “I went in the room and I didn’t see anything,” the clerk said. Another guest, Ryan Belcher, who stayed at the hotel over a year ago, recounted his haunted experience in a Google review of the property. “My girlfriend and I were unable to sleep both nights as we kept hearing footsteps outside our door. Then later we heard a ‘presence’ in the room a couple times. We heard the sound of an old man moaning”. Deanna during her investigation of the hotel has heard the old man hacking and coughing. Deanna says the old man is named Dillon and he was 85 years old when he died in the hotel in 1912. Deanna feels he died of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis and tuberculosis.
MANY GLACIER HOTEL
Many Glacier Hotel was built in 1915, and is considered one of the most paranormally active locations in the park. Reported sightings include a woman in a red dress, mysterious noises coming out of Room 308, and objects moving on their own. A former winter caretaker shared stories of a wine bottle mysteriously appearing in a locked hallway. Glacier Park Inc. employees are exceptionally happy to relay some of their encounters with the spooks of Many Glacier Hotel. An employee says at times there is the smell of perfume, or the smell of cigar smoke that originates from the hallway. There was also a time that all of the lights in the hotel turned red. There was no explanation for that. After a few minutes passed, the lights turned white again. Some of the contractors that worked in the hotel, would have a ghostly encounter and would be too frightened to come back to the hotel. The contractors that did return would turn up their music real loud, hoping this would keep the spirits away. In one air vent, a worker saw a pair of eyes looking back at him from the air vent. Workers would sometimes hear something moving inside the walls. There was a day that the contractors and staff heard music playing. There were no guests in the hotel and there was no reason for piano music to be playing. All the pianos were in the San Moritz room downstairs, so the staff went down there to investigate. At times the music would stop. Then it would start up again. The staff went back upstairs. As the staff entered the gift shop, they found a cassette playing. The staff had no explanation for the cassette being turned on and playing piano music. The staff could not explain why the music would stop and go. A staff person mentioned to Deanna that on one particular day, they placed their hand in some kind of sticky goop. The goop was clear and would dissolve quickly. The staff person felt she placed her hand in ectoplasm. Deanna felt the Many Glacier Hotel Lady in Red was an entity named Maltilda and she was a lady of the night. Deanna would see this Lady in Red peeking at the male contractors. She would watch them for a while, giggle and walk away into nothingness.
LAKE MCDONALD LODGE
Lake McDonald Lodge ghostly occurrences have been reported here as well. One security guard reported seeing a woman in old-fashioned clothing, and a night auditor once felt fingers running through her hair. Guests have also heard loud arguments from vacant balconies. Near this lodge you have mysterious trails and roads that lead out to the dark vast wilderness. A hiker once claimed he felt like he was being watched. As he took his binoculars and looked at the tree line, he saw a skinny white figure with antlers. The hiker heard a horrific scream come out of this creature. The hiker left the area as quickly as possible. The hiker after doing some researching, feels the creature he observed was some type of Wendigo.
GOING-TO-THE-SUN ROAD PARK
Going-to-the-Sun Road Park personnel have reported seeing the ghost of an old, grizzled man with a beard, dressed in dated clothing, walking along the road at night. When they turn back for a second look, the man is gone. Stories exist of a mysterious cave in this area of the park, though details are scarce. Some locals have said they have seen Shadow People near the cave entrances. Deanna saw a man in hiking gear go near the cave and then vanished.
CONRAD MANSION MUSEUM
This historic Kalispell mansion, which offers ghost tours, is known for its Halloween-themed events. One of the ghosts that haunt this mansion is a little boy that carries a red ball and sometimes bounces the red ball against the wall. Some of the people that visit this museum call the ghost the Red Ball Tyke.
GARNET GHOST TOWN
This well-preserved 1890s gold-mining town is now a ghost town filled with old buildings, cabins, and a saloon. It has a gift shop and guided tours. Deanna has seen ghostly miners walking around at this ghost town. One miner ghost that Deanna saw was carrying a pickax. A few Montana locals like Tim Depperson claim that they have seen the ghosts of Harry Longbaugh aka The Sundance Kid with Kid Curry and the Wild Bunch riding through town on their ghostly horses. Tim says he was able to recognize the outlaws because of photos he has seen of the Wild Bunch.
