Looting Spree in the Name of Homelessness Continues

There is big money to be made in homelessness, and not only in the corruptocrat dreamland of California.

Live Now Fox reports from Hawaii:

A Hawaii auditor released a report documenting millions of dollars of improper spending a state organization made to a contractor.

Some of the expenses Hawaii’s Office of Housing and Homeless Solutions made to HomeAid Hawaiʻi, included payments for housing units that weren’t built and hundreds of thousands of dollars for marketing materials.

The state office also paid the contractor money for unauthorized travel, including first-class airfare.

The handpicked contractor ran up $13.7 million in unauthorized or questionable expenses

Hawaii also reportedly reimbursed HomeAid $108.38 for two “Intimacy Kits” containing condoms, lubricant and sex toys at a Las Vegas hotel.

The report calls to mind a story at My Northwest from last April:

Seattle city leaders are calling for major changes after a forensic investigation found $13 million in public funding unaccounted for at the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA), according to a post from the Seattle Mayor’s Office.

Then there is New York State, which managed to spend $81,700 per derelict in fiscal 2025.

In the olden days, poverty was addressed relatively effectively by churches, rather than ineptly by bureaucrats throwing other people’s money to the four winds.

Again we are reminded that as government expands, so do waste, graft, and fraud.

Like Big Government, homelessness continues to grow as it gorges itself on taxpayer money.
