San Diego unveils drastic plan to build affordable housing on library properties

San Diego’s public libraries could soon become the landing spot for affordable housing units if a dreamed-up plan becomes reality.

The City has developed an Affordable Home Development Master Plan based on the Home Opportunity Framework, which evaluated 400 City-owned sites for residential developments on public land.

The framework initially identified 20 locations best suited for affordable home development, which boiled down to 11 most promising sites including seven public libraries in University Heights, University City, Allied Gardens, Mira Mesa, Linda Vista, North Park and Clairemont.

Authorities said that the master plan “establishes a high?level framework for how the City could use its land to continue providing critical City services, such as libraries, while also identifying opportunities to add future housing.”

The City will now study these 11 sites and figure out how essential services can operate at each location along with the addition of new affordable homes.

So, tons of money being dumped into these studies and all sorts of NGOs and to friends and family to ascertain which location is best for this bad idea

“Any potential development at a candidate site with an existing library would include both a replacement library and housing, consistent with the Library Master Plan,” the City of San Diego said.

Gonna be a lot of graft money going around, eh? These “affordable housing” units tend to cost something like a million dollars each, so, what does the city do? Sell them at a major loss? The city can’t actually build them, they have to contract out (more slush money), what will make these affordable?

San Diego Apartments Shrink to 827 Square Feet as Rents Soar 70% in a Decade

The average new apartment in San Diego has shrunk to just 827 square feet, down from 911 square feet a decade ago, even as the typical monthly rent has climbed to $3,038. That combination of smaller floor plans and steeper price tags puts San Diego at odds with a national market where apartments have actually grown slightly larger since 2016.

I’m not sure how that is tenable. How do people afford that? Maybe San Diego should simply allow developers to build more apartments, townhomes/condos, and single family dwellings without all red tape. Oh, and get all the illegals out, who help drive up prices do to taking up domicile spots.

But, anyhow, it’s great that they’re considering libraries, since the homeless are already using them to sleep in, urinate, defecate, watch porn.
