I’ve shared that phrase many times from the State House floor when recognizing our young ladies, coaches, administration and families from the Chapin High Competitive Cheer Team!
And I’ll get to do it again in a few months when they come for their “annual visit!”

Chapin High School varsity cheer wins Class 5A State Championship
IRMO – Chapin High School varsity cheer won the South Carolina High School League Class 5A Division II state championship on November 22 at the Colonial Life Arena.
For the second time, Class 5A held two championships for Divisions I and II.
Chapin finished with 334 points ahead of Catawba Ridge’s 309 points. This is the 19th state title for Chapin Cheerleading and coach Vicki Williams’ 18th state title at Chapin.
“The team truly created their own legacy by hitting a perfect routine, while protecting the legacy of all the girls that had come before them,” Williams said. “They know they have to meet and uphold the expectations of what it means to be a Chapin Varsity cheerleader, which is not easy. The commitment and work ethic is demanding in order to carry on the tradition of putting excellence on the mat. We are so proud of this team and their hard work to protect the legacy of Champions!”
Since competitive cheer became a sport, Chapin is the only high school cheer team to win state titles in 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A divisions. Also representing Lexington-Richland School District Five at the state championships were Dutch Fork High School and Irmo High School. Dutch Fork High finished in 3rd place in the Class 5A Division I with 297.5 points and Irmo High School finished in 4th place in Class 5A Division II, placing all three cheer teams in the district in the top five in South Carolina. Irmo finished with their best performance of the season scoring 265.5.
“I am so proud of this team and the coaches,” Chapin High School Principal Ed Davis said. “Their hard work, commitment, and Chapin toughness were on full display. Coach Williams and her staff have set the bar for excellence in our state! This is an awesome achievement for Chapin High School, our community, and our district. A true testament to what Eagles can accomplish together. We aRe CHAPIN! Three-peat!”
