A man with a hammer assaulted a police officer near Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He was shot and injured by officers on duty at the site. The approximately 2000 people inside the cathedral were asked to sit down in the aisles and wait until the situation is calm. Crowds were asked to stay away.
