Dalits' 29-Day Protest Continues, Land Issue Still Unresolved

Andhra Pradesh: Despite nearly a month of peaceful protest at the Kadapa RDO office, Dalits from Old Kadapa say their demands remain ignored, as authorities demolished their protest tent and failed to resolve the land issue. The Rayalaseema Communist Party has vowed to intensify the agitation until justice is delivered.

Protest suppressed, but demand for justice continues

Rayalaseema Communist Party State General Secretary Ravi Shankar Reddy, addressing the media on Tuesday, condemned the demolition of the relay hunger strike tent and said the government’s actions were undemocratic. “The struggle will continue in new forms until the problem is resolved,” he said.

Land meant for Dalits illegally occupied by upper castes

Ravi Shankar Reddy pointed out that lands allocated by the government to Dalits for farming had been illegally occupied by upper caste individuals. He alleged that the administration has failed to act and retrieve the land, leaving Dalit families landless.

Call for revenue officials to act

He criticized the practice of registering cases against Dalit protestors instead of acting against the encroachers. He urged the revenue department to respond and restore justice to the rightful landowners in Old Kadapa.

10-day awareness campaign and mobilization planned

To build momentum, the party announced a 10-day campaign in Dalit and tribal villages. Committees will be set up at the grassroots level, and large-scale mobilization of Dalit communities will be initiated to prepare for future protests.

A fresh round table conference with political parties and civil society organizations will be held at the Press Club on July 19 to chalk out further strategies. “This movement will be shaped collectively,” said Reddy.

Voices of solidarity

Dalit Tribal Rights Struggle Association honorary presidents Venkatesh and Madagalam Prasad, along with Old Kadapa Dalits including Obulesu, Diwakar, Veera Subbaiah, and Venkata Subbaiah, participated in the media meet and pledged continued support to the cause.
