Just How Toxic is the Fluoride Product?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Secure Arkansas has written many articles about fluoride over the years, but this one is of the utmost importance. Why?

Many questions need to be addressed, especially because fluoride affects ALL of us; and there is current legislation about it at the Arkansas Capitol and in other state legislatures, too.

Just how toxic is the fluoride product that is being fed into our drinking water supply for so-called fluoridation purposes?

Is it poison? And what contaminants have been found in the fluoride product itself?

Here are two bags of fluoride from two different chemical companies. Did you know that these are two examples of what is being put into the public drinking water supply to fluoridate it?

Notice that they are labeled as TOXIC. The skull and crossbones is a symbol of death, danger, or a warning of hazardous materials. Can you see why this nasty stuff is not healthy for humans, animals, or plants to consume?

Legislators, please do NOT overlook this proof of danger!

We want to provide you with the Certificate of Analysis (COA) from Chemtech-Ford Laboratories for the state of Utah, as an example. Click the link to read what this report states about the hazardous materials found.

In addition to Solvay Fluorides LLC and KC Industries, another manufacturer of fluoride chemicals added to the public water supply – Hydrofluorosilicic Acid (HFS) – is the Mosaic Company. Their Supplier/Distributor is Thatcher Chemical.

The Mosaic Company, a Florida-based company and operator of America’s largest phosphate mining facility that supplies fluorosilicic acid (FSA), also known as hydrofluosilicic acid (HFS), to water treatment facilities for public water fluoridation and is recognized as the largest producer of fluorosilicic acid in North America, produces approximately 135,000 short tons of the solution annually. The primary applications of this product include water fluoridation for major U.S. municipalities and use in the manufacturing of solar panels and silicon chips.

Here is an Information Request – NSF/ANSI 60 – Product Information regarding the Mosaic Company’s chemical product Fluorosilicic Acid.

Not everyone realizes that:

  • Hydrofluorosilicic acid can be the MOST dangerous chemical at your local water treatment plant.

  • It can release hydrogen fluoride when it evaporates.

  • It’s corrosive.

  • It can damage the lungs if inhaled— making it especially dangerous for plant employees if stored or handled incorrectly.

In addition:

  • FSA also interacts negatively with metals to produce a flammable hydrogen gas — so a stainless steel chemical storage tank is not a viable option.

  • It eats through concrete and attacks glass, so fiberglass tanks are a poor storage solution as well.

Please take a peek at these two articles from Fluoride Action Network (FAN):

Fluoridation Chemical Company Fined $2 Billion

Some excerpts:

The company that gets rid of highly toxic wastes by selling them as a “product” to municipal water departments across the country as cheap fluoridation chemicals has been fined $2 billion for gross violations of the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), reports the Fluoride Action Network (FAN).

Mosaic Fertilizer, LLC, is one of the largest sellers of a toxic fluoride chemical, “fluorosilicic acid”, that cities add to public drinking water. Fluorosilicic acid is described by EPA in the Consent Decrees as a “hazardous waste” produced at Mosaic’s fertilizer plants. More than 200 million Americans drink these wastes every day.

Help FAN to draw attention to EPA’s double standard on Mosaic’s fluoride waste

Some snippets:

Mosaic, a giant part of the phosphate fertilizer industry, produces fluorosilicic acid, a hazardous waste that is transformed into a product when it is sold. It is this transformation that allows it to be dumped as a fluoridation chemical in public drinking water across the U.S.

“FAN is dismayed at the Environmental Protection Agency’s glaring double standard. While it has taken some steps to address the DIRECT impacts of Mosaic’s hazardous waste on the local environment it continues to turn a blind eye on the INDIRECT impact of the use of this hazardous waste when it is deliberately added to the public water supply in water fluoridation programs.”

In addition to several measures designed to give greater protection to workers in this industry, FAN is asking that:

“MOSAIC be expressly forbidden to sell Fluorosilicic Acid, or any other chemical manufactured at their site(s), for any purpose connected with the fluoridation of drinking water.”

Here’s a so-called “Safety” Data Sheet (SDS) for Hydrofluorosilicic Acid from another supplier.  See page 1 of it below:

The Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) laws govern the storage, treatment, and disposal of hazardous waste.

We have seen our public water supply systems in the United States become a hazardous waste disposal system for these chemically contaminated products. So, by default, this means that our human bodies, along with those of our pets, livestock, birds, other animals and sea life, and plants are a LARGE part of that hazardous waste disposal system — because we all drink or take in that fluoridated water every day!

So, what’s being done about it, and what are we tasked to do?

Many of you will recall that we have mentioned Dr. Phyllis Mullenix in our previous articles over the years. She is a staunch advocate for clean, potable water and is actively working with legislators and people all across the country concerned about public water fluoridation and the harmful effects from it.

As an example, see the following from Dr. Phyllis Mullenix’s critical report for Utah.

Here are the Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for Hydrofluorosilicic Acid (HFS) that were performed by a state certified independent laboratory covering 3 different years — 2012, 2013, and 2018.  All HFS samples were NSF Standard 60 certified.

Hydrofluorosilicic Acid (HFS) has harmful contaminants in it, including (but not limited to) arsenic AND lead.

Remember, the maximum contaminant level goal (MCLG) for arsenic and lead is ZERO!

Look at these examples and the arsenic levels:

2012 COA: COA was generated during an investigation of an HFS delivery accident which resulted in a respiratory injury to a water operator. I was consulted regarding this incident, so I included the accident narrative FYI.  The COA for HFS arsenic revealed 63.7 ppm in the raw additive and a lead content of 22.2 ppm.

2013 COA: COA was generated as a routine check of metal levels in HFS by Weber Basin WCD.  As far as I know, this COA was not a part of any accident investigation, just a check of batch-by-batch content. Arsenic = 67.8 ppm; Lead = none detected.

2018 COA: Another routine check of HFS metal content.  Arsenic = 69.7 ppm and lead = none detected.

Overall, high arsenic content is common to HFS.  High Lead content occurs less frequently, but it can appear unexpectedly.  In the event of an overfeed, an accurate COA per batch is the only way to determine risk of harm to a consumer.  The exposure profile (fluoride + arsenic or fluoride + arsenic + lead) is key to proper diagnosis and treatment of public water system poisonings.

What is arsenic? It’s a toxic heavy metal when in its inorganic form.

Here’s an article from the Cleveland Clinic about arsenic poisoning.

Some key snippets:

Arsenic poisoning occurs when you ingest or consume high levels of arsenic. It shares features of other heavy metal poisonings, including mercury and lead.

You can experience arsenic poisoning quickly, but long-term exposure to the element is more common.

Arsenic poisoning can cause serious complications and even death if not treated immediately.

Arsenic poisoning affects at least 140 million people worldwide. This is due to contaminated drinking water. People in 50 countries are exposed to water that contains potentially dangerous levels of arsenic. These countries include:

  • Bangladesh.

  • India.

  • China.

  • Thailand.

  • Chile.

  • Mexico.

  • United States.

Also, arsenic exposure, especially long-term and through inorganic forms, can lead to various health problems, including cancer, skin changes, and damage to multiple organs, with the severity depending on the arsenic form, exposure duration, and dose.

Arsenic has a long history of use as a homicidal agent. It’s known as the king of poison and the poison of kings.

And did you know that arsenic does NOT decompose, biodegrade, or move downward through soils and will remain permanently in the top layers of soil, unless it is removed?!

Bear in mind — it’s also IN OUR DRINKING WATER at levels that are clearly NOT safe! The only acceptable level of arsenic is ZERO.

Back to Dr. Mullenix — she goes on to simply state:

Furthermore- the high levels of arsenic so typical of HFS is a problem for Utah now because HFS at the well sites must be hauled off as hazardous waste.

Any level of arsenic and lead greater than 5 ppm dictates a classification as hazardous waste.

HFS also has a pH of 2, so again it must be removed as hazardous waste.

So, just who is this Phyllis Mullenix, Ph.D. that’s screaming for people to wake up about hazardous waste in our drinking water, not just in Utah but all across our country? Is she qualified to make this necessary call about the dangers of fluoridation on the human body? YES… she is, dear readers! This remarkable woman just happens to be the world’s leading expert!

She has held positions:

  • at Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Boston, MA

  • at Harvard School of Medicine, Boston, MA

  • in government as a Toxicology Consultant; Ad Hoc Reviewer, Toxicology Study Section, National Institutes of Health, Washington, D.C., and

  • in industry as a Toxicology Consultant; Monsanto, American Petroleum, 3M Company, and more.

She was also:

  • Head of Toxicology Department, Forsyth Research Institute, Boston, MA

Let’s take a better look at her highly-qualified background, linked here.

To sum it up succinctly, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix is a resident of Andover, Massachusetts. She’s had a brilliant career as a pharmacologist and toxicologist working for corporations and then Boston Children’s Hospital. When in a leadership role at Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, she was instructed to do some routine testing of fluoride using established animal protocols used to tease out potential problems, and her life changed. Both she and her employers were flabbergasted with her findings that proved that exposure to fluoridated water in utero or infancy resulted in cognitive and behavioral deficits – learning disabilities and mental health issues. (They had expected the findings to show no harm.) The experiment was repeated a number of times with the same results. She and her boss flew to Washington to give the government (and industry) a heads up. Then things got interesting. Dr. Mullenix was subjected to both professional and sexist mistreatment and was ultimately let go when she published her work despite being warned that publication might adversely impact funding at Forsyth. Her lawsuit filed against a Harvard affiliate (Forsyth Dental Center) was settled just days before trial.

In closing, legislators, fluoridation will need to be addressed soon, so please don’t let this legislative session go by without looking into this serious matter regarding the health of the public. Something has to be done.
