The Hackney City Farm website shares that it first opened in 1984 when it was brought to life “by enthusiastic members of the local community who were inspired by the success of the newly formed Kentish Town City Farm”.
Adding that their “aim was to give youngsters and local people the opportunity to experience farming”.
The farm also offers “children and adults the chance to get up close to a range of farmyard animals; see, smell and plant vegetables and other food plants; and learn new skills”.
Home to a wide range of animals, guests at Hackney City Farm can meet pigs, donkeys, goats, sheep, ducks, geese and chickens.
One of the farm’s most recent additions is Willow the donkey and her foal Bear.
In February 2023, Willow gave birth to a baby boy Ash, who is no longer at the farm.
Away from animals, Hackney City Farm offers a range of interactive and engaging workshops like the animal handling course, chicken and egg course and the habitat course.
