More than a ton of Costco poke recalled because of Listeria contamination

Western United Fish Company dba Annasea Foods Group of Kent, WA, is recalling 3,314 pounds of Kirkland Signature brand Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. 

The implicated product has the Costco item number of 17193, and a sell by date of 9/22/2025.

“This recall was initiated after being notified by our green onion supplier of a Listeria monocytogenes positive test result in the green onions which were used only in Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke on 9/17/2025. We are continuing to work with our green onion supplier to determine the root cause,” the company said in its recall notice.

The affected Ahi Tuna Wasabi Poke product is packaged in clear plastic clamshell containers and has the Kirkland Signature brand label with the pack date of 9/18/2025 and sell by date of 9/22/2025.

The product was sold at the deli section from Costco Warehouse stores in the following states on Sept. 18: Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

No illnesses had been reported as of Sept. 20, but it can take up to 70 days for symptoms of Listeria infection to develop.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product and dispose of it immediately and visit your local Costco for a full refund.

About Listeria infections

Food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes may not look, smell or taste spoiled but can still cause serious and sometimes life-threatening infections. Anyone who has eaten any of the recalled product and developed symptoms of Listeria infection should seek medical treatment and tell their doctors about the possible Listeria exposure.

Also, anyone who has eaten any of the recalled product should monitor themselves for symptoms during the coming weeks because it can take up to 70 days after exposure to Listeria for symptoms of listeriosis to develop. 

Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Specific laboratory tests are required to diagnose Listeria infections, which can mimic other illnesses. 

Pregnant women, the elderly, young children, and people such as cancer patients who have weakened immune systems are particularly at risk of serious illnesses, life-threatening infections, other complications and death. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, their infections can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn, or even stillbirth.
