In Didwana (Didwana-Kuchaman), a government teacher couple has transformed the roof of their 242 square yard house into a thriving organic farm. Over the last 15 years, they have cultivated fruits, vegetables, flowers, and medicinal plants entirely in pots, turning their home into a lush green jungle.
The couple — Dr. Shankarlal Aladia and his wife Meena Chauhan, spend their mornings and evenings tending to plants. Located in Santoshi Nagar on Ladnun Road, their home is now a local attraction, known for its dense greenery and unique rooftop kitchen garden.
Dr. Shankarlal Aladia (44), a senior teacher at Government Mahatma Gandhi School, Meethdi, holds a Ph.D. from Rajasthan University on “Medicinal Agriculture, Problems and Prospects in Nagaur District of Rajasthan”. His wife Meena (40) teaches at the Government Higher Secondary School in Banthadi.
Gardening is a family affair, their children Tanmay and Devanshi also actively participate. Together, they have planted over 5,000 trees across various locations, distributing saplings free of cost.
