First issue on ‘Policy-making for Agroecology’

By Colin Anderson
*Rooted Magazine is produced by: Cultivate!, SOCLA, AFSA, UVM Institute for Agroecology, and AgroecologyNow and in close collaboration with several autonomous regional agroecology magazines: LEISA Revista de Agroecologia for Latin America and Agriculturas in Brazil.

We are excited to announce the launch of a new international magazine: Rooted in Agroecology and Food Sovereignty. You can download a pdf of the first issue on Policy-making for Agroecology here, or view the articles on the website from the same link. The next issue will be on the link between health and agroecology – please see the call for contributions here.

Featuring frontline experiences and perspectives from farmer leaders, indigenous people, researchers, and advocates, Rooted is your go-to source for transformative ideas and actions on agroecology and food sovereignty.

Rooted builds on the legacy of its predecessor, Farming Matters magazine, which operated for over 30 years with a readership of half a million people globally. Rooted will carry on the work of lifting the voices, perspectives and knowledge of food producers and others at the forefront of action to transform food systems. This new iteration of the magazine will focus more specifically on agroecology and food sovereignty, foregrounding a transformative approach to food systems change.

In the inaugural issue, authors from places like Brazil, Kenya, the Indian Himalayas and Switzerland share lessons learned in Policy-making for Agroecology, as well as perspectives from movement leaders such as Georgina Catacora-Vargas (SOCLA) and Million Belay (AFSA). The articles offer lessons learned along with valuable guidance for initiatives, strategies, and policymaking.
