Let’s just look at facts: No nation has been screwed with externally in any material capacity since WWII (you can argue about Israel perhaps) if they have nuclear weapons. This is why North Korea sought them and, subsequent to obtaining them (and they likely got the original material from Pakistan, incidentally) nobody has attempted to tamper with their government. Terrorism and similar acts yes, but an actual attempt to invade or overthrow the government, nope. In addition Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons that were formerly there as a part of being formally a USSR affiliate and you can see how that turned out.
