Robot Walks Over 100 Kilometers Without Stopping, Sets New World Record

Chinese robotic company AgiBot’s humanoid robot A2 has set an incredible Guinness World Record in a walking challenge that saw it walk just over 106 kilometers in three days, traversing a variety of environments, including busy urban roads and bridges.
The A2 began its historic walk in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, on the night of November 10th, and kept at it for three days, until arriving in Shanghai, in the early morning of November 13. It covered a total distance of 106.286 km, earning it a Guinness World Record for the longest distance walked by a humanoid robot.
Interestingly, the A2 had no malfunctions during its epic walk, with the rubber soles on its feet being the only victims of this incredible journey. According to an AgiBot spokesperson, the challenge demonstrates the reliability and stability of the company’s humanoid robot technology.
For a humanoid robot to walk continuously for over 100 kilometers on a single battery charge sounds unbelievable, and in fact, the Chinese company used a “hot swappable battery” system, which allowed the A2 to continue walking while the battery swap took place.
“Walking from Suzhou to Shanghai in one go would be difficult for most humans, but a robot managed to do it,” Wang Chuang, partner and senior vice president of AgiBot, boasted.
Humanoid robots are fast evolving. Not too long ago, we featured another Chinese model that imitated the human gait almost to perfection, and another company was forced to cut the costume of its humanoid robot during a presentation to prove that there wasn’t a human being inside.
