In Light Of The Recent Hurricane Helene Disaster & Government's Impotent & Tyrannical Response, Is It Time To Bring Back Civil Defense?

Does anyone remember “Civil Defense”? If you grew up in the 60s (don’t calculate age here, lol), you might remember one of your male relatives or neighbors being part of civil defense. You can read about civil defense here and here. Yes, the reference is Wikipedia, but it gives an idea of what civil defense was at one time. Civil Defense in the united States was “the organized non-military effort to prepare Americans for military attack and similarly disastrous events.” Civil Defense was replaced by “emergency management and homeland security”.

This writer remembers her dad and many neighbors being part of the organized civil defense. These men responded to a terrible disaster in our county that killed many. Civil Defense members were trained not only in a military-style response in case of an attack on America, but trained to assist local government in disaster response, such as massive car accidents or natural disasters. Considering the recent disaster with Hurricane Helene causing massive devastation due to flooding in Appalachia, would not “civil defense” from other counties and States, consisting of trained civilians, be better to respond to this emergency than a bloated, incompetent, negligent, corrupt, federal government through its emergency management agency? It would be biblical for sure for neighbors to help neighbors.

But, the government couldn’t have citizens helping citizens through a trained civilian civil defense because it would not make the residents dependent on government in an emergency or during a disaster. The take-over of emergency management was a way of gaining further control over the people. Even local and State emergency management agencies have proven to be ineffective in disasters. One only has to look at the disaster in North Carolina to see this as fact.

Private citizens have been trying to help victims of flooding and Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. Yet, government officials have threatened citizens helping victims with arrest should they continue in their operation.

Many of the roads in western North Carolina and upstate South Carolina are so wrecked from Hurricane Helene that rescue crews are still unable to access the people who are trapped there, at least with wheels. However, the authorities do not want private citizens trying to rescue trapped folks with their own private helicopters, which begs the question why?

A guy named Jordan Seidhom shared the story on social media of what he encountered while trying to rescue people with his private helicopter. Authorities told him to suspend all operations and let anyone else he knows with their own private helicopters to do the same, threatening arrest if they disobey the orders.

“At the time of this post I was the only helicopter within 40 miles working,” Seidhom wrote in a Facebook post. “I am unsure of the guys [sic] name but he had on a lake lure fire department shirt.”

At the risk of talking badly about first responders, Seidhom clarified that he is not trying to cause any trouble and simply wants to help. He is confused why the government does not want private citizens helping in much-needed rescue operations, especially since the government itself is having trouble doing the job.

“I was extracting a lady from a collapsing mountain side and Due [sic] to the unstable environment I left my copilot on the ground to stay with the husband. When she was brought to safety I was instructed that if I returned to get either person the husband or my copilot, I would be arrested.”

This is not new. Every time government is involved in “disasters” the people suffer. It happened in Lahaina, Maui. It happened in the Florida Keys. And, it occurred in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina. Now, it is happening in North Carolina.

Unwilling to leave his fellow man behind, Seidhom felt the need to let the world know what he is encountering while trying to do the right thing in the damaged mountains of North Carolina.

“My copilot is currently flying me back for more fuel,” he wrote about what was happening next in real time. “Hopefully they change their mind about asking for help before it gets worse.”

Seidhom further wrote that while flying back for more fuel, he observed six more people “waving for help.”

“Fellow pilots be safe out there,” he said. “We will be on the north side of the mountain where they appreciate help. These people need help and they are turning us away.”

You can read the post on X.com.

What would be the motive of the “government” to prevent civilians from helping those in need? Control over people is one reason. Another could be an additional way to murder people through starvation, exposure, and dehydration. It has happened before in other tyrannical regimes. Make no mistake, the united States has now devolved into a tyrannical regime.

The entire infrastructure in the hurricane-affected areas is destroyed. Those officials in government are experiencing the same thing as the civilians, meaning they cannot engage in any emergency management. No electricity. No water. No food. Barely any shelter – some have none. Definitely, minimal to no ways to communicate. Why would anyone turn away help from volunteers using their own funds to provide it? It makes no sense unless the plan is to displace the people permanently and steal their land or kill them. All one has to do is look at the history of disaster response by federal and state agencies to see it has happened before.

It’s time to bring back Civil Defense – a civilian response to disasters affecting the people. The federal government has zero constitutional authority to provide emergency management. That is an authority left to the states or the people. Since the state and local emergency management has proven to be as inept, shouldn’t this be left to the people?
