Scott Ritter: Trump vs. Zelensky — End of Ukraine, NATO & EU (Video)
In this 19 October 2026 published video, host Prof. Glenn Diesen talks with Scott Ritter and the ongoing comflict.
Scott Ritter’s core argument is that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a fatal mistake by making his dispute with Donald Trump personal, a political rift that Ritter claims will trigger the collapse of Ukraine and fundamentally destabilize NATO and the European Union. Ritter, a former U.S. Marine Corps intelligence officer and UN weapons inspector, shared these perspectives during an interview hosted by political scientist Glenn Diesen.
Ritter asserts that the personal friction between Trump and Zelensky isolates Ukraine from essential future U.S. political and military backing. He evaluates NATO as heavily fragile, going so far as to call the alliance a “complete fraud”. Ritter argues that a withdrawal or reduction of U.S. commitment under a Trump administration effectively gives the U.S. total leverage over European security, leaving the EU exposed. Borrowing the famous line from Top Gun, Ritter claims that Ukraine and its Western allies have let their “egos write checks their bodies can’t cash,” pointing to severe military and economic miscalculations against Russia.
Note: The perspectives outlined above reflect Scott Ritter’s personal assessments. While Donald Trump has frequently questioned the scale of U.S. aid to Ukraine and criticized NATO defense spending, NATO officials maintain that the alliance remains intact, and any formal U.S. exit would face substantial legislative hurdles in Congress.
