Reports indicate that Iran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a move that several sources describe as a violation of the two-week ceasefire announced by President Donald Trump on April 7, 2026. The closure occurred less than 24 hours into the truce, which was intended to pause a 39-day conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. Iranian state media reported a halt to oil tanker passage in response to ongoing Israeli attacks on Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran claims these attacks violate the ceasefire agreement.
The U.S. and Israel maintain that Lebanon was not included in the ceasefire deal. Conversely, Pakistani mediators, who helped broker the deal, reportedly stated that a halt to attacks in Lebanon was part of the original agreement. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned of a ”regret-inducing response” if Israeli strikes in Lebanon do not cease. President Trump has responded by warning that the U.S. military is prepared to target Iranian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, if the terms are not met.
The ceasefire was announced just hours before a self-imposed deadline by Trump, who threatened the “destruction of an entire civilization” if the Strait was not reopened.
