• Crowds of revellers pose a ‘soft target’ for ‘domestic’ and ‘homegrown’ radicals

White supremacist terrorists as well as ISIS militants could be planning to target Independence Day celebrations, federal authorities warned.

FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and National Counterterrorism Center, have said US ‘domestic radicals’ could use these events to strike at the government.

The warning came as ISIS supporters featured New York and Washington DC in propaganda threatening ‘retribution’ in the lead up to July 4 festivities.

In images spread online by ISIS extremists, jihadists were pictured in front of a mass of flames spreading from the White House.

One poster shows Donald Trump’s head superimposed on a orange jumpsuit with a jihadists standing behind him, as what appears to be Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament crumble in the background.

The words ‘soon’ an attack at ‘the doors of Europe’ and ‘harvest time’ were written on some the images.

Some threats referenced the Berlin attack in December 2016 as well as the Strasbourg Christmas market shooting last year.

July 4 is a significant date for ISIS as it was the day in 2014 when leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi announced the creation of the so-called caliphate at the al-Nuri mosque in Mosul.

ISIS has renewed calls for its supporters to launch attacks on the West, including Europe, Russia, the US and Australia, with low-tech methods such as using cars or trucks to drive at crowds.

This call to arms came as Islamic State was swept out of its lands in Iraq and Syria by Syrian Democratic Forces and Kurdish fighters in March.

A senior FBI official recently testified to Congress that the bureau is currently tacking around 1,000 suspected ‘homegrown’ ISIS-inspired extremists who were radicalised by foreign groups.

Last month a the FBI foiled an attempted bomb plot by a Syrian refugee on a church in Pittsburgh.

Investigators claim he was planning an attack in the name of ISIS and was caught discussing the plot with an undercover agent.

However law enforcement agencies said there are no known plots picked up by intelligence services specifically aimed at July 4 events.

The FBI statement read: ‘We are unaware of any current plots specifically targeting such events.’

US federal agencies are also concerned about domestic terrorists and have urged law enforcement personnel to remain vigilant for suspicious activity, according to ABC News.

#Israel Talks #PreemptiveStrike On Iran As #China Slams US As ”Root Cause” Of Tensions

While all major powers and signatories to the JCPOA are cautioning Iran in the wake of its declared uranium enrichment ramp-up, there’s been mixed reaction and a blame game already emerging. 

Early this week Israel’s Foreign Minister went so far as to say Israel may “act alone” to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, while China’s reaction was very different, slamming US policy and its “maximum pressure” campaign as the “root cause of the current tensions,” according to Reuters. EU signatories, meanwhile, urged further dialogue and expressed “extreme concern” over Iran’s breaching the 300km uranium enrichment ceiling. 

To be expected, Tel Aviv has remained the most bellicose in reaction to Iranian enrichment activity. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz told Israel Army Radio that the Jewish state would not “allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons, even if it has to act alone on that”.

And Katz further told an international security forum in separate comments that Iran was on its way out of what he called the “gray zone”. “It should be taken into account that mistaken calculations by the (Iranian) regime … are liable to bring about a shift from the ‘gray zone’ to the ‘red zone’ – that is, a military conflagration,” he said in a speech, according to Reuters. 

“We must be prepared for this, and thus the State of Israel continues to devote itself to building up its military might for the event that it will have to respond to escalation scenarios,” Katz added. 

Additionally, even mainstream media reporting now acknowledges that Israel has long been on record as mulling a preemptive strike scenario, per Reuters:

Israel has long threatened to take preemptive military action to deny Iran the means of making nuclear weapons. Tehran says it has no such designs. One of its senior lawmakers warned on Monday that Israel would be destroyed within “only half an hour” should the United States attack Iran.

This followed President Trump’s condemnation that Iran was “playing with fire” in breaking prior terms of the nuclear deal, something Iran’s leaders have slammed as full of hypocrisy given it was the US which unilaterally pulled out of the 2015 deal in May a year ago.

#Rouhani: Starting Sunday, Iran will enrich uranium to ‘any amount we want’

As accord teeters, Iranian president says Tehran will move to refine #radioactive element beyond 2015 deal’s 3.67% cap

Iran’s president warned Europe Wednesday that his country would “take the next step” in increasing its uranium enrichment this coming Sunday, and enrich to “any amount that we want.”

The comments by President Hassan Rouhani at a cabinet meeting in Tehran further increase pressure on European partners to salvage the unraveling 2015 nuclear deal following the US withdrawal from it last year.

If signatories of the nuclear accord do not fulfill their commitments, Rouhani said, levels of enrichment will go beyond the 3.67 percent limit agreed under the deal.

“In any amount that we want, any amount that is required, we will take over 3.67,” he said.

“Our advice to Europe and the United States is to go back to logic and to the negotiating table,” Rouhani added. “Go back to understanding, to respecting the law and resolutions of the UN Security Council. Under those conditions, all of us can abide by the nuclear deal.”
